Just woundering if anyone here has ever replaced head gaskets on a subaru 2.5 engine. My sister bought one and shortly after the head gasket or gaskets went out and I am woundering how hard it is to fix. It is a very very common problem for subaru 2.5's, they are piles of shit!! Flat engines are cool but when it comes to working on them I don't care how cool they are....no thank you!!

Pain in the ASS!

I have done work on a STI. It was easier to drop the engine out the bottom to work on it. It is possible to do in the car but it is a very very very tight fit!! Good Luck.

Yeah it is a flat 4. My sister is paying someone else to fix it for her. 1,000 dollars in labor and $100 in parts, what a shame. I can build a stroker engine for that much!!! I hate new cars with a passion.

To much work for a head gasket, but that is the way it has to be done if I were to do it. The people at the shop said they were going to fix it with the engine in the car and they also said they have fixed tons of these.

The motor comes out the top, and yeah 10 hours labour and make sure to have the valves adjusted,or else. while your at it re-seal the rear seperator plate and use the new updated gaskets,pm for more info

She ended up paying a shop to do it, I didn't have the time and have never worked on a Subaru before. I didn't want her to have to wait forever. Everything is fixed though now after $1,100 dollars....ouch!
