Stupid CHP

I come from a family of LEO's. I don't have any problems with the cops that enforce the laws that are written. What I do have a huge problem with is some of those laws. When it comes to California it's worse.

I drive for a living and although I don't any longer I used to drive through all the lower 48 and Canada. I could never figure out why a speeding ticket that would cost me 50-80 dollars in most states would be 400-600 dollars in California. Same with log book tickets or any other ticket. I don't understand the reasoning behind a fine thats not only double or triple the cost of everywhere else but sometimes as much as ten times the amount.

Another reason I think when it comes to laws and peoples hatred for California and what you say about people coming down so harsh is the fact that California seems to have a way of setting precedent with laws. A good example of this is the third lane restriction for semi's California started it and now I see it all over the country. There is no good reason for this law in most states. California has it's reasons...mainly their stupid 55 mph speed limit for trucks but in most reasonable states that do not have split speed limits they are starting to impose this too.

Emission laws...started in Ca, now working their way through the rest of the country. I could go on and on about this but you get my point.

Good point. California seams more concerned with coming up with more stupid laws then fixing our budget crissis or taking care of other important topics. they spend more time trying to pass 1 new emissions law then attempting to help education.

Nuke Proof I would have to say you do have an anger issues, just look at your screen name. No one is nuke proof we all die.
The thing I don’t get is all the cops and ex-cops that complain about how they are shot at and how they lay their lives on the line for the rest of us. You signed up for it! If you don’t want to be shot at don’t become a cop its part of the job. I do have respect for anyone willing to take on a job like that
Yes I would be hiding under the bed for the fear that if I went for my gun I would be killed by a trigger happy cop, it happens all the time. Then the cop gets a paid vacation. If I made that type of mistake I would be fired!
I feel with all the killing in the Bay Area the cops have better things to do than writhe tickets for mud flaps.
I don’t see pickup truck coming off the lot with mud flaps

Wife was driving the Jeep on 680 last night and got pulled over for not having mud flaps!!!!!! I have BW flares, but that wasnt good enough for him:dunno:

when your being assaulted raped murdered robbed... call a crackhead

see how they compare to cops

seams to me then that cops would do more good spending there time helping people who have been assaulted, raped, murdered, and robbed rather then wasting there time enforcing vague and bogus tickets like for mud flaps or fender flares.

Crack heads are worthless. In no way would say cops are worthless. We have to remember it’s a tough job that I would not take.
Maybe I am jealous. I have spent 30 years doing dangerous work that insured others safety and livelihoods. The end result is that I now find myself living in daily pain and realizing in a few years I will be disabled. No one is offering me a lifelong income, but I made my choice in life and will live with it.

Now back to mud flaps.
The interpretation from Cal Legal

"If there is more than one inch of tread exposed to the side then flares are required. If more than 75% of the tire height is exposed to the rear then flaps are required."
Is not consistent with the CVC

No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or
more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with
fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or
unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate
protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or
mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or
attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread.

Who Cal LEGAL informational Legal is there a link?
I believe it is up to the Courts to interpret the law.

it sounds to me like the top 25% of the tire needs to be completely covered by a flare or flap . If more than 75% is exposed, then you need to cover enough to have less than 75% exposed.

Just my interpretation

Wow...5 pages of pointless bitching...Haha.

When I started getting pulled over for not having flares, not having mud flaps, having broken tail lights, having a cracked windsheild, having no drivers side mirror...

I bought a daily driver...
($475 comanche that I drove home from Clear Lake where I bought it to Benicia...)

and eventually bought a tow rig...

stock vehicles don't attract attention...

$1500 and you make it where your trying to go without talking to the po-po..

look all I'm saying is there is no need to insult them they do what they do to help you. Its not that hard to put mud flaps on I know I'd be pissed if I was hit by ur rooster tail.
I admit some cops write tickets that are ridiculous but some cops get killed by people. some cops get sued for reacting wrong in a split second and it ruins there life. compare your ticket to that.

When i was in iraq a small child pointed (approximately 8 years old) what appeared to be a rifle at me while i was in my HMMWV turret traveling approximately 30 mph. i lifted my rifle sighted him in and flipped it to fire. luckily a lil girl stepped in front of him when we pulled over we found out it was fake... if i squeezed id be in jail right now.

cops go through that crap and lose there lives whether they go to jail or die those are the choices they make. don't insult what you don't understand. some cops deserve it but generalizing them doesn't say much for you. Cops save lives and keep you safe...

:P

I got pulled over for no mudflaps in our old gmc C-20 flatbed when I was 17. the cop was right, there were no mud flaps.

so, I took off the bed, and put on a set of mud flaps. took pics of before flaps, and after flaps, and took it in with the ticket and the truck being only visible frame and drivetrain behind the cab.

they were livid...BUT i told them either they drop the ticket, leave me alone, and let me run without them, or I run bedless (which there are ZERO regulations against other than the requirement of mud flaps...though the general expectation is that such vehicle be a fleet vehicle designed for towing or such). they dropped the ticket, I took the flaps off and put them back on the C10 i borrowed them from, put the bed back on, and called it a day. never was bothered again.

it irks me...the truck was a farm vehicle that only saw the road in the winter to plow, to haul firewood, or if someone else's vehicle broke. now it's a rusty pile of junk in need of a new 307 and complete body...:(
