I've been pulled over twice for this in the last 3 months (no ticket), and was told even with the flares I had to have the mudflaps. So now I have mudflaps, just another thing to take off once I hit the trail. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrggg! :thumbdn:

I looked up the vehicle code and it only specifies that a flap needs to cover the width of the tire.It says that it should be adaquit in reducing the rearward spray of the tire. Well whats adaquit!!!! to me adaquit is what I have :)

Don't blame CHP - they don't make the rules. Write Sacramento instead.

Yeah, but the CHP sure loves enforcing the petty sh!t a lot more than other departments

That would be because the State is going broke. When the City is going broke, they tend to set up speed traps (like the one down the street from me.)

Recall that most local governments (City through State level) have an "expected" revenue coming in from traffic tickets and suchlike - and they usually spend that money long before they collect it. If the local government spends too much money, they also lean on the PD to write more tickets to raise capital (instead of not spending so much, or paying themselves more in line with what they should actually be earning...)

See if you can dig up the budget plan for your local government - I'm willing to bet you'll find a line titled something like "Projected Citation Revenue" or something to that effect - that's what drives the "ticket quotas" that "don't exist" but damn sure hit everybody. No, there is no official ticket quota, but there is an expectation that certain revenue will be generated from traffic, parking, and equipment citations - and that money is usually already spent (since most places put ticket revenues into the General Fund.)

That's part of why equipment violations (Fix-It Tickets) now don't get signed off for free - they cost $10 to sign off. They get you coming and going these days...

Again - don't go after CHP, they're just enforcing the rules and policies they're handed. Go after Sacramento (or whatever seat of government you're dealing with) since they're the damnfools who actually write the rules!

I have gotten pulled over twice for this. First time it was by the Pleasanton cops, the second time by CHP on 680. Ive gotten warnings both times and I hope I keep getting just warnings, because I'm not tryin to put flaps on the jeep.

Actually I just re-read this. The key here was THE WIFE was driving the Jeep.

Most cops who write paper on mud flaps are usually bikers themselves...See the bias?

Try replacing glass in a motorhome.. Mine is over 10 grand, yep installed... So when a rock flys up an pops it you get pissed.. Check out the newer motorhomes, they are like 8' wide and 6' to 7' tall if not more.. This is ONE peice of glass...

A brand new Mustang broke the window on my Jeep, they should have mud flaps too.

You get more rocks flying with off road lifted rigs, sorry but you do.. Yes a stock car can throw rocks to..Hell gravel trucks drop all kinds, but if i get pulled over i'll put flaps on.. This is just my 2 cents...

LMAO that you gave that example and didn't say, "I'm putting flaps on my Jeep before I break some poor bastard's windshield!" :laugh2:

Oh, and you're getting ripped off w/ your RV... the place I worked at did them in 2hrs and the glass cost < $1,200 on average.
