Stuck on heating problems

I have a 2000 xj, 6 cyl. I had the radiator changed by a jeep dealership about a year ago. I changed the heater core, t-stat, coolant temp sensor, fan clutch, radiator cap, and flushed and changed the coolant/anti-freeze. The Jeep is running between 215 and 222 consistently. The electric fan is kicking on when it is supposed to. Sometimes it will drop down to 212ish on the freeway.

I am at a loss as to what to do next. compression issue? Help, anyone? Thanks.

Whilst the issue of the later model head issues may figure in your problems ....

Which radiator did the dealership fit ??? ... Just the standard one or the more suited to California temps - factory "maxcool" radiator.

A sticky or faulty thermostat may be restricting coolant flow / keeping temps high as well ... even new ones arent always perfect.

Probably the first thing to do is confirm the temps are correct with an IR temp reader or a meter with a temp probe.

May I ask,, have you inquired into the normal operating tempature for an XJ? I maybe wrong, but I believe XJ's like to be at about 210-220 operating tempature. You may not have a problem at all?

Change your coolant mix to 30/70 for the summer--30 ethylene glycol and 70 distilled water. 50/50 is a year-round compromise, and provides great protection for freezing, sucks for cooling.

Just to put another perspective on the " XJs like to run hot " line of thought ....

The only reason an engine will run that high a temp ... above the fitted thermostat temp of 195* ...

Is because the cooling system is inadequate and cant maintain the minimum engine operating temp designated by the thermostat ...

The cooling system will be inadequate either .....

Because of poor maintenance and faulty components ..... or

Climate conditions and the particular use a vehicle gets .... Chrysler acknowledges this .... as different capacity radiators, thermostats, the electric fan, etc were all offered as factory options ... and indeed were standard fittings on some models - depending on point of sale.

MY XJ ... " likes " to run at 195* ....

....... with a proper 195* thermostat, a better radiator, the correct anti-freeze mix for the climate and new waterpump/hoses/fanclutch.

If I bother to fit a 188* thermostat when summer rolls around .... It will " like " to run at 190* .....
