STUCK: dana 44 roll pin :: REPOST FROM MOD TECH

sorry, i know tech is not smiled opon in socal chapter.... but i need help, and someone local may be able to be my hero on this.....

STUCK: dana 44 roll pin =\
so halfway thru my dana 44 build im taking the carrier out to install the lockright.... and my roll pin(retaining cross pin) is stuck! tried banging it out both ways.... nothing....
took it to pepboys, and they said the pin is damaged, and they wont touch it.... they kept asking me if im SURE its not a bolt like on d35´s....

ive tried....
heating the surrounding area....
driving it both ways.....
nothing....
anyone got any experience?

just to make sure, did you remove the bolt that holds it in? *shrug*

all that holds the cross pin in on a D44 is a roll pin, did the pin break? or is it still stuck in there?

Air hammer with a small ended punch on it?

If the D44 carrier is like a D30 carrier, as far as the spring pin, it should come out like so.

swing the hammer harder. use the correct size roll pin punch. if you use a punch that is to small, it will go inside the roll pin. I think it needs to be like 3/16" or something. hell, I've even used a drill bit once cuz I broke the RP punch and didn't want to waste time getting another one.

ive gone thru a set of four punches trying, will try the screwdriver and possibly the air hammer methods listed above....

AT LEAST its on my work bench and not in the vehicle...

Where at in LA are you?? Just bring the carrier down to me If You can... Ill get the pin out for ya... I think I even have a carrier laying around for 354's and down... D44 that is...
