stroker crank selection

should i go with the earlier heavier 12 counter weight crank or the 4 counter weight w/the shorter snout. i know the 4 weight has stalling issues when its carbed but i will be fuel injected. people say the heavier/older one will run smoother but isnt a better to have a lighter rotating mass?

I got the one with 4 counter weights and didn't need any modification to the snout. The casting number was 3727, and I got it and the rods for like $100, along with the rest of a 4.2 that I can scrap now.

I run the 4-weight long snout w/ax15 and stay on the street, so I wanted faster spool up. If you do alot of crawling and have the ax15, the 12-weight is the way to go, cause it'll help keep the momentum going and be tougher to stall than the 20# lighter 4-weight. If you have an auto, then you can go either way. As long as the rotating assembly is balanced, you won't have any issues with smoothness.

The lighter crank will help the engine rev up faster but the extra counterweights of the heavier crank are better at smoothing out vibrations at higher rpm. My 4.6 stroker is virtually vibration-free with the heavier crank right up to the 5200rpm rev-limiter, and it's definitely smoother than my old 4.0 ever was. I weight balanced my pistons/rods to within 1g.

You should balance the crank with the rods, pistons and my machine shop recommended I bring in the flywheel as well. I seem to remember that the short snout 4wt cranks are becoming rarer, so even if you order that one you may get a long snout version or even a 12wt. Make sure you speak to a person and verify that the correct casting will be shipped.
