stroker break-in

how many miles is a good break-in period on a fresh built stroker?
any things i need to listen for and watch? other then the normal leaks.

Break-in should be performed in a minimum 600 mile (1000km) period, though the stroker probably needs close to 10k miles to loosen up nicely.

I guess mine will be broken in in a couple more years then.

I have about 400 miles on mine and it seems to be making even more power now.

Just drive it, don't rev the piss out of it for a while, but don't be afraid to use it. Change the oil after 100 or so miles and look for signs of metal. The oil will look a little metalic at first, but you don't want to see alot of metal. Once the bearings wash in that should go away. Also I belive the oil companys have recently removed an additive from there oils (I think it was Nickle, can't remember) but anyways buy the additive and use it on every oil change. People are losing cam shafts like crazy due to the new recipies. They dropped it because all your new cars have roller cams and don't need it. This is mostly affecting new cam installs because the cam and lifters are not yet broken in and hardened.

That additive is ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate) and oil companies have been reducing this additive to prevent the cats from being damaged by the zinc. As you rightly said, new engines no longer have flat tappet cams and therefore don't need this anti-wear additive for protection. This means that those of us who do have flat tappet cams will need to find another source of ZDDP and a good one is GM EOS. Just add it every time you change the oil.
