Ok so I was replacing the hub on my 1990 cherokee. So for the first 10mins it went great. I got the bolts off and the nut off. then it was time to get the hub off. Well stupid me I hit the shaft with a hammer to remove the hub and basically stripped the shaft thread. Now the nut wont fit onto it. Anyone have an idea as to what I can do besides get a new CV shaft?

Are there any threads left? You could try running a die over it to fix the boogered threads, but you're most likely getting a new shaft from the junkyard. The nut keeps the preload on the bearing, so don't try driving on it with the nut loose or not present or the wheel bearing will end up trashed.

Its only the very tip thats messed up. Basically just enough to make it impossible to thread the nut on. Anyone know where and exactly what size die I need to rethread it?

Ah I didnt think of that I'll try that tomorrow. I really rather not have to get a new axle shaft.

Ok I used a file today and got it thread again. Thanks for the idea works great. Now I dont need a new shaft.
