I can't say I'm really fond of the new for sale section.

I want someone local to come and take this. Make offer.

I have no idea.

Perhaps I should have given the background before.

I am from NJ originally, and only within the last couple of months did I get my MJ. I came to CA following a job, and am staying with a buddy till I find a place.

We were cleaning out his backyard, and I recognized the bumper as being a XJ bumper... he said, oh yeah, it's the stock external tire carrier off an XJ. I dunno what year, or anything, nor does he.

It opens and hinges, is all I can tell you. Being an MJ owner, I have no idea what parts would be required to make it complete. Nor does my bud. It was for an XJ he bought like 3-4 years ago. 80's era if that matters. My bud says all the parts are there, I dunno. But I do know that the longer things sit (and he says he's had this for years) parts tend to go missing.

Anyways, I put it on here for you guys. Neither of us has a clue what it's worth, nor what's missing, or anything. In part of cleaning up the backyard, he wants this gone, and would like a few bucks for it. I can't use it, and if it's not gone kinda soon, the wife is gonna trash it, or ride him till he does. But, I figured there might be someone on here that could have a use for it.

All I can tell for sure it needs is the third stud to hold the wheel on. Beyond that, I dunno.

I'll tell you what it needs as I put one on mine awhile back...

There are three sets of braces. One that goes up top inside the body, a brace that goes down below behind the bumper, and a brace (with two other braces that go with) inside the bumper for the latch. You can generally find these at a bone yard.

I might have some, if not all of these braces in the garage as parts to an extra tire carrier that I have so I might get some pictures. I won't be home until early July though (in Atlanta for training).

The carrier looks complete otherwise, you will want to get some large washers to upgrade the hinges, see http://members.aol.com/Stvns/XJhelp4.html for more information.

By the way nitrogt101, if you mentioned the needs work in reference to the below picture worry not, that part to the right is not part of the carrier.

Also, this will fit any '84 - '96 easily. You may be able to make it fit a '97 - '01 with some modification. It is a good tire carrier.

O2L,
do you still have that swing out avail? I'm been interested in one for a while. I have an '00 XJ sport that can try to mount it on. I'm in the SoCal area and expect to make a trip to LA Wed or this weekend.
thanks
