I recently went out and purchased a set of Bazooka Marine 6.5 coaxials for about 30 bucks after tax. They are new from the floor display. Perfect shape. I installed them in the rear hatch. They sound great for a marine speaker. Now I am looking at another set. These are Bazooka Marine 8" coaxials. I am thinking about placing them in the rear cargo area in the sides. One where that pocket is on the passengers side and the other in place of the spare tire. I might make a set of fiberglass panels and cover them to match my interior. What do you guys think? I have never ran coaxials this size.

I need to add this... the 8" coaxials are 100 bucks..... I can also get a set of Bazooka Marine 6x9 coaxials for 40 bucks... hmmmm? I would place them in the area I was going to put the 8" rounds....

you're better off just using subs, or a sub...the size and quality of these will not allow them to properly project the upper mid-base frequencies correctly,so you're basically adding a pair of inefficient 8" subs with tweeters mounted in the middle. now 8" mid-bass kits are good for the gap between sub and 6.5", recently did this in a toyota avalon that had about 35k invested in the sound system and interior add ons... so my thought is to ditch the 8" coax idea, and get one or two 10"-12" subs...

added: don't use 6x9's... they breed distortion!

well put audiophile, 6x9's suck. just get yourself a nice 10 inch woofer and an amp woth a x-over and you will be super happy with the sound. the 10 will give you the low end you want and those 6.5's will cover your highs and mids. good luck

Well I went by the shop today to see if they still had the 6x9 bazooka's.... they were originally priced at like $150... then reduced several times.... my last qoute was 40 bucks... I bought them today for 17 dollars. Guess I will be trying out the 6x9's.... maybe move the 6.5's into the front doors... how much chopping will i need to do?

Wow... I wouldn't mess with cheap Bazooka speakers. Have some quality sound and go with Pioneer 6X9's or something. Why would you and 6.5 in front when 5 1/4 will work just fine, fit in stick location and sound great.....if you put a decent speaker in there. Or go with a sub like stated above, if thats the sound you are looking for.

personally, those speakers are not worth $150 if they are on sale for $17.

JeepinAudiophile: what brand are did you use, were they amped, and how loud was it turned up for the distortion?

Just my .02

well.... the store doesnt carry marine applications.... but they tried these out..... didnt sale many cause its a car stereo shop.... they have the 8" bazooka tube with the built in 150 amp... all these were the floor display... were listened to often. All came with warranty as they would have new... this last set i got a 4 year warranty.... the 6.5's sound a hell of a lot better then the pioneers i have in the doors. i got the 6x9's for 17 bucks cause they wanted to get them out of their store... i am going to try and get that bazooka bass tube this weekend.... im not interested in high quality sound in this XJ... just something that sounds decent.....

I have owned several sets of MB Quart and love them... Also quality Infinity systems, Sony, Pioneer and a few others. These are marine speakers and arent suppose to sound like the car audio speakers... but so far I cant complain.... and if this rig breaks down on the trail and im alone.... last thing i need is to lose out on a stereo i paid top dollar for. So far I only have about 65 bucks in the system.... Im going to try and get that tube for 75 bucks.

well 85chief.... it depends on which car you're talking about...lol... I'm a certified mobile electronics installer. So this is pretty much what I do... As for cherokees, i have only put speakers in the front doors running of factory head. 6.5" fit perfectly on 97+ atleast in a customers car. I pulled down the headliner in my 00' and fiberglassed inside the overhead speaker location so that each speaker has it's own sealed enclosure. In there I a pair of Alpine F17M's ($700/pair) that's as far as i got with mine aside from the Eclipse 55090 in the head. This is where i stopped because after making that over head area, i changed my mind on what i wanted to do with my truck. As for now I only have plans on what I am going to do when i can save up $7k (at dealer cost) to buy the electronics from alpine do outfit my XJ "properly" keep in mind this is also going to be a show vehicle for the company I am starting. So i can offer general information for vehicles I have worked on, but not too many specific to XJ's. I have disassembled the entire interior of my XJ so that i knew where things were for the design process, at this time I also laid down close to 200 sq.ft. of Cascade VB-2Max with is a sound and vibration deadening material with a thin sheet of aluminum on one side.(that's almost $1,200 retail) sorry foir the tangent... The F17M's i used i also used in a WJ, Bi-Amplified with 75w RMS to each woofer, and 120w RMS to each tweeter... These things can handle music output beyond what your ears are likely to take in...lol these components were putting out clean bass down to nearly 50Hz, and loud!!!. The tweeters are a bit bright, but better than most companies. I have 2 pair, i am selling one pair if you're interested...$300 I am going to use alpine's new x-type components because of the new ring-tweeter design. the other pair is getting used in my parents motorhome...amplified components, 20" flat screen, dvd player... in the storage compartment so they can have a mini theater outside.

Well everything is in the XJ..... I made some boxes for the rear... will take photo's later.... I bought a set of 1/2 spacers (cause they were out of 3/4" and 1" spacers) and used them to install the 6.5's in the front doors... a few cuts and hammer hits and they fit.... sprayed some dynamat rattlecan into the doors (not very much as it ran out).... installed the rear speakers into the new boxes... sealed with spray foam and poly stuffing..... used most the dynamat rattle can in the rear 1/4's.... after all was said and done I think I have maybe around $250 into the system..... Sounds real good for 250 bucks..... sounds pretty awesome for that dollar amount.... and has plenty of thump... next project is lining the doors with dynamat extreme. Or maybe that ofther stuff they are selling at Circuit city.... forget what its called.

OK, since I caught the typo too late to edit it, here's the fixed link. Grr.
