steering advice

This whole steering issue has been driving me nuts for awhile now. Like I said, I had my mind totally set on the JCR UTK but the dead spot will drive me crazy. I see you used the J20 TRE washers but I heard they are next to impossible to get ahold of. Its not the strength of the JCR that concerns me, it just that damn inherited dead spot. BTW, I need somthing that will work with 7"+ lift.

i run his steering conversion with 35s and it hold up through hell and back
The only way thats possible, is, if your "Hell and back" Is related to bedroom problems while the jeep is parked in the garage.
Its a Known Proven fact the Rustys Crossover steering Is not only Garbage But DANGEROUS

Check out Youtube :skull2:

the dead spot refers to the inherent play in the steering caused by the TRE's that rotate by nature. i dont know what the J20 washers are all i have is the stock spacer that came along with the kit.

In your other thread I thought you said there was play in your steering box....................which would causing your dead spot.

I have the JCR otk and have no such dead spot.

For those who have the so called "JCR Dead Spot". Look and watch at the steering kit while you have someone turn your steering wheel back and forth. There should be some sort of slop/movement B4 your tires start to move which would create a "dead spot".

PLEASE ....Tell me where this "dead spot" is being caused?????

Other wise.........I CALL :bs:

The "dead spot" is where your "spacer/bushing" is. When your spacer wears out you will get your play or dead spot when the tierod ends rotate. The J20 spacer is what was used on the full sized Jeep trucks with the same basic steering setup but a better spacer/bushing that does not wear like the cheap poly ones that JCR has. If you look on their site you will see the poly "bushing" for replacing worn out ones. they are only $5 but what a pain it would be to have to change it out all of the time you get some slop. Search on google you can find some info about it. This is one reason I went with the WJ swap is so that I wouldn't have to mess with the bushing and sloppy steering.

Look under #2 and #6 you have the tie rod end then the washer bushing washer. This is the J20 setup. No part numbers for these. The mopar # is j8124821 and j8124820

Yea....I know all about the J10 spacer............the dealer cant get them anymore b/c they dont make them anymore.

And I do know where dead spots come from.........my point b4 to "emr1101" was that his set up was brand new so the dead spot shouldn't be the poly bushing........he said b4 in another thread that he was getting slop from his steering box...........which would be the cause of his dead spot. NOT the JCR steering...........as long as it was installed correctly.

In my setup I didnt use the JCR poly spacers.........I made my own out of cutting board type material which was much better than the spacer they provided.

the taller the rig the worse this dead spot is

the more vertical your drag link is the worse it is with an inverted "T" steering setup

as you turn the wheel the drag link forces down on the tie rod forcing it to roll a bit creating this slop.

i run 3" lift with otk so its a non issue for me
