me & a buddy went to look at some of the rigs that raced in the vegas to reno race saturday, made me want to turn my xj in to a low budget "jeepspped" style xj start off just bashing & doing a few of the small races around here. Not going to do anything crazy to start, just gut it & build a cage & a small lift.

the jeep is pretty stock, 1987 Pioneer, 4.0, auto, 4x4 on 31s, no sway bars. im going to put the rear sway bar back on & get a zj front swaybar along with a tie rod. its not going to be bad ass right away but over time i hope to get it there & start racing it.

pix are kinda old, has a new grill & ugly spot light taken off.

Check out Larythedog's build thread. Give you ideas on what you can do at home.

If you really want to beat it pre-runner/desert racing style, the frame rail reinforcement should be your first step. The kits are not too expensive, but the main thing they do is save time. If you have more time the money, you can buy steel sheet and cut out your own plating. 'Lot cheaper, lot more time consuming.

Have fun! Hope we see you at the races next year!

An 87 with a spotlight on the A-pillar and a d44... police package? Do you have an extended idle switch and/or progressive rate springs?

i dont think it was a police package, the owner before me put the spot light on & didnt do a very good job. lol

You know, if you're going to beat on that, carefully and thoroughly repair that A-pillar. The hole from the light mount is probably the point for your first stress crack if you really start twisting it up.
