Sprint vs. Nextel?

Pros and cons for each? I have Nextel but am looking to go with sprint to save a little money, and get a camera phone. Anyone got a sprint phone? What's the quality of thier stuff? I've dropped my I95 a dozen time and it's just got scratches with everything still working. Are thier phones durable? How about coverage? I am in FL so if anyone here has one, let me know what ya think. I appreciate any help you can give.

I've had Sprint, then AT-T, then back to Sprint. If you live in a metro area, Sprint and ATT have the best network footprint in the industry. I like my Sprint service better than ATT, used both for over 2 years at a time, went back to Sprint. Like the toll free Sprint to Sprint phonecalls, but they shouldn't charge a monthly fee for this. Like the online billing format. The Samsung phones are decent but I like the Nokia models better. Live in Utah.....YMMV in Fla.

I had Sprint for 3 years, my dad has had Nextel for at least 5. If it weren't a company phone that he had to carry, he would chuck the thing in a lake. In town it works great, and the Motorola phones are nice, but reception anywhere outside of a metro area is LOUSY. He travels up and down I-95 for work a lot, and if he's more than 2 miles to one side of the highway or the other, he gets NO reception.

I was fairly happy with my Sprint service and reception, and the clarity was definately great, but I didn't get great service in the mountains and more remote areas. We were in Montana and Wyoming this summer and anyone that had cell service was using Verizon. When my contract expired, I went with Verizon. The service area is much greater and I get reception in a lot more places, but the call clarity sucks and I drop calls from time to time which never happened with Sprint.

With all that said, I will probably go back to sprint when this contract expires unless the clarity of Verizon improves. HTH

I have both I have sprint as my own Phone service and Nextel as my work phone. My sprint works everywhere, even if it does go on roam sometimes, at least it still works, my Nextel on the other hand will just stop working, sometimes wont even go on roam, just loses service when I venture out a little ways.

If you need a walkie-talkie, Nextel is it for you. But their phone service sucks. I travel the U.S., and have poor reception in many areas, including my NC home metro.
If you're staying in Florida, and don't need a walkie-talkie, go Sprint. I quit my AT&T because of $$, and the nextel was given to me by my company. (also, I heard that ATT customer service is now 40% based in India, like a large % of Dell and Bof A Bank reps).

Where I live, they both blow for coverage.

Here in western IL, sprint doesn't cover more than 2 miles from the interstates, with nextel covering somewhat more.

If you want coverage, you have to go with either Verizon or US Celluar.

Couple things that are needed to be said is that Sprint by design is a digital only provider. Also based on the frequency they use and the power output they require more cell sites then traditional analog/digital providers (like Verizon or AT&T). For me Sprint works great: I get very good coverage in the metro area, not bad coverage along the major interstates, but often when I wonder into the unknown, I do have to roll it over to analog to get any sort of reception... and I pay I think 69 cents + any appropriate LD charges (about 15 cents). Also in analog I don't get voicemail alerts, pages and so on....

Depending where you're at, Sprint might work good or bad.... same with NEXTEL... also try to see if either one is willing to let you take one for a spin for a week or two (I think Sprint lets you try it out for 14 days till they bind you to a contract)..... if they do allow you to do that, make sure that you got EVERYWHERE and do the "can you hear me now" calls :D

Well, I've had Nextel for the past 2 and a half years and the service has been great until I get in the Ocala National forest. But other than that, I am gonna give sprint a call to see if they will allow me to do the test week. Thanks guys.

I work at Best Buy and I can tell you that the new Sprint 2-Way kinda sucks, though the phone is cool, it does video.

Besides the 2-way, the Sprints are awesome, the Samsung 8100 is a great phone as well.

If you want the 2-way, go with Nextel.

Yeah. I wouldn't be getting a sprint for the 2-way. Nextel has the market for that. I am just looking for something with better sound quality and a smaller phone and from what I have heard, that is owned by Sprint. I might give the 2way a shot when I know more people with it, but I mainly looking at the voice quality and pic phone. So, I will give sprint a call later this month. Thanks again guys.

I just switched my phone and my fiancee's phone from AT&T to Sprint. I bought 2x Sanyo 8100 Picture phones at Best Buy. After rebates, the phones are free so I got the service plans. Battery goes bad, I'll just take it back and get a new one. As for the phones themselves, I can't say anything bad about them. The camera part is a riot. Service is much better than AT&T, and since Sprint uses Verizons network, the coverage is much better.

I think he is refering to when there is no digital coverage by Sprint its self.

Oh BTW, My Nextel, as of today works at my house! Bye Bye land line!

Well if that's what he's referring to, then by no means that's a benefit of Sprint over AT&T cause the "verizon" network calls are not free on sprint....

I know that both Verizon and Sprint amongst others use triband phones (800 analog and digital + 1900 digital). As far as I know though, the cell sites are not "cross used" as there is enough variation in the digital technology both are implementing (even though both use CDMA).
