spring creek 3-29

Just joking........ Sheesh, don't get all 'Raptor-emo on me....... :D

hahahahahaha...be nice...
i dont really care...i just know if its super snowy comin down that first hill might get interesting(based on pics)
but im just stoked for a new trail!

Saxon Mountain is easy to do no offshoots. Just take a right when you get to the top of Spring Creek. The other way can get confusing if you go Spring Gulch.there is three offshoots and another offshoot going down Cascade.....................so ya, you could get lost easy! ;)
From what I've been told, Saxon can be snowy/icy in the spring. A little scary for some because much of the trail is shelf road. :scared:

Take any of those branch roads down and turn left on Chicago Creek Road to go to Idaho Springs. No shelf roads and enough trees to get you some drift busting.

BTW, Cascade Creek is a fun little diversion. Especially if you have soft springs and the guy behind you does not. :firedevil

Here's a bigger picture for you: http://www.rmftc.com/saxonmapbig.jpg

Man I would sure love to go, but i don't feel equipped or experienced enough for that yet... Only have a 3" lift with 30" BFG A/Ts. Am working on getting a front bumper with a winch and tow points and rock sliders as well. So maybe sometime later. I think I will start with staghterhouse and some easier trails, I don't want to hold anyone up...

Oh and that weekend i will be in Moab for the 10th annual Mountain Unicycle Festival! I'm also probably gonna do some wheelin' down there. You guys have fun though i want to see pics!

The snow on the shelf sections is the problem on that trail right now, that can get REAL scary!, I guess a group tried last weekend and didn't get thru. Maybe by the 29th it will be better!

I have driven spring creek on several occasions, one of my favorite trails. I have driven the shelf road in the deep snow. The problem is not the snow but if you can't get through the snow you will have to back down the snowy shelf road. I have had several rigs behind me that could not get through. That is no fun. if you can get through there is a turn around at the fork to the mine. It was scary enough that the better half walked down instead of ride along. Of course she was on the downhill side going up. Hard to tell how close it was from the driver seat.

My CJ8 was the only rig of 10 to climb the granite slab at the entry the last time I led that trail. Nasty rock to fall back into last time also. Shorter wheel based rigs (TJs) were having a real hard time with that rock climb even with lockers. The rock garden will be a hoot in the snow also, but there is a bypass for that if necessary.

I would go along if you can postpone it one more weekend. My grandmother is in town that week.

My samurai made it up the slab

I think I'm gonna hold off on trying this one in a stock height XJ until A) it dries out a bit more in the mountains B) the trail gets run a bit C) I'm a bit more comfortable behind the wheel. I'm doing it though, my goal is to get the XJ places it shouldn't be.

I will be there... Troy get working on your junk so you can run!!!

Mark I can't make this run, I just found out I get to work next weekend in the Springs.

I will be a maybe if i get some stuff for my junk!

What do you mean if you get some stuff for your JUNK? I don't have rear shocks, my rear seat is only tack in, only most the bolts are tight, and I am having steering issue. RUN YOUR JUNK.

You sir are funny i really need shocks... otherwise ill probably roll or rip em out... i might be there though depening on gas money...

the too short shocks aren't going to cause you to roll, worst case you'll rip one apart and sice you're replacing them anyways who the frack cares.

I just got some 36x13.5 R15 IROK Super Swampers and went in to work today to mount them. I'll be testing those bad boys out on Spring Creek.

I have a line on a set of shocks but they are skyjacker...

Ask Led how long you can run a shock as a limiting strap. And if you are worried about rolling I will trade you your Jeep for a Honda. Too short of a shock is no big deal, once again RUN YOUR JUNK!!! and if you need gas money there are way of making some you probably won't want to tell anyone how you did it. Hint Colfax...
