Speed limiter?

I hit the limiter in my '99 to test out the new speedo. 7" and 33s, felt very stable. But then again I'm a "Jeep Snob"

How high do you guys take RPMs up to when going that fast? After about 3k is seems like somthing is going to blow up.

how are you guys getting over 100? i tried testing mine to the limit and only got up to 95, it was vibrating like crazy and scared the crap out of me, i am never going that fast in the jeep again. especially seince now im lifted with no swaybar. buty how can you guys getup to 116? jeeps have the aerodynamics of a brick, sure it has the power, but too much drag.

my renix had the power, it pulled hard enough to 116 that she probally got 125-130 in her.
note: liquid smooth at that speed, it felt just like 70

Your 4.0 should be able to rev up to 5000, but I wouldn't push it further...

in the '96(235/75r15/3.07/5sp) 116 comes on right at 3k in 5th. smooth as glass and has plenty left. without a limiter it should do 160 @ about 4100, if aerodynamics don't hold it back...:laugh:

I can hit the 116mph limiter with ease in both 4th (4350rpm) and 5th (3450rpm) gears, but then I have a 4.6 stroker with 27.4" tires and no lift. The Jeep feels absolutely rock stable at that speed. Without a limiter it should reach 130+.

I have gotten over 100m.p.h. on the way up to the mountains for snowboarding with three 150+ passengers and one 120lb driver plus three boards strapped on my Surco. You can feel the wind pushing against the brick but it feels stable still. This is on my bb and 30" bfg ats

ya i just was going up to a lake today and its all straight hilly roads and i got mine pretty far past 100 on the spedo this all being stock it felt okay but you can just feel the wind coming in all the door seals and what not but it didnt shake or vibrate at all.

back when i was STOCK, i followed a porsche from milwaukee to indiana. my speedo needle was bouncing off the bottom and my rpms were up around 4,000ish or just a little over. the ride felt smooth as hell, but i could actually watch my gas gauge need move the entire time i was holding that speed. and i honestly have to say it was very surprising to see how clean the STOCK xj handled that speed and how fast it got up there. unfortunately it also caused my engine to develop a slight rod knock. i wasn't running amsoil back then, but just cheap parts store oil.

now that i'm lifted i normally stay between 66-75mph, with occasional short bursts up to 85-95mph.
