Speed limiter?

My 98 does, Id assume they both do. The tires arent rated to where the limiter hits so dont spend too much time there, if it all.

i believe that the limiter can be turned off by putting an inline switch on the wire that sends a speed signal to the ecu.

my jeep does 116 in third gear when the speed limiter kicks in

My 88 will only get to I would guess about 99. Only have 85 on the speedo

i used a stopwatch between mile markers to get 116, then read up on here and found out thats what they are limited to.

I never knew what the limit was... Mine is a 99 and I know I have spent long periods of time at 116 then.
All I knew was that the needle was just buried, hehe.

Darn interstate driving from Delaware to Florida...

isnt going 116 scary in a jeep cherokee?

i dont get my jeep over 80 ever. its also not stock.
Yeah Id be afraid of a blowout followed by death...I cant see the point in going that fast in an SUV like ours.

Ive always been wondering, but is the limiter run off the rpm or mph? Road speed is derived from the rpm so I'd assume it stops at 3500rpm in 4th gear?

actually, 116 felt great. it was in the middle of nowhere between bned and burns, and then from burns to the nevada border, so many hours of straight road in the desert. felt just the same as doing 75 on a freeway.

and my jeeps not stock either.
probally good i didnt get much faster though, tires are S rated so = 112mph

It's run off driveshaft speed. There is a little gear in the transfer case that sends a signal.

With different axle gears or tires it throws off the speedo. So with big tires or numerically lower gears you can theoretically go faster than 116 even though the speedo will be slower than what you are actually traveling.

mmmmmm......

i would be scared to go that fast lifted with 35's, let alone have the horsepower to pull it off

I've done close to 115 mph a few times in my XJ, so was just wondering.
Mind you, that's a stock '97 2WD with good quality street tires. Yes, it is a bit fast for the vehicle, but I wasn't exactly on the busy 405 freeway at the time.

It's been quite a long time since it's seen 100. With the fact that it's now able to be classified as a "heep" instead of a "jeep", I am pretty afraid to taking it over 75-80...

So those 100 ranges were back when I was stock.

With the 4.6 stroker my Jeep hits the 116mph limiter in 4th and 5th gears with ease. Tires are H rated (130mph) and the Jeep still feels very stable at 116mph, but I'm too chicken to keep it there for more than a few seconds. Apart from the fear of a tire blowing out, I also want to avoid getting pulled over by the cops.
