Most importantly, get a good head unit. If you skimp out there it doesn't matter what kind of speakers or amp you get.

Since you are planning on an amp be sure the head unit has preamp outs. Most decent ones do.

You want the best sound possible, then look at component speakers, but those are a little more cumbersome to install.

Especially being in the jeep, be sure your speaker cones are poly as well as the surrounds, just in case of water.

As far as amps go, and some will argue with me on this, most run on the same technology. Unless you are going big watts, which you said you aren't, then there won't be a lot of difference between them, but don't get the cheapest thing out there.

Avon, are you wanting the amp to run a sub or the new door speakers? I'll start pulling together some prices for you through Driven, with the naxja discount of course.

maybe a sub later but door speakers fo sho!

First thing whats your budget! If your looking for a hundred dollar upgrade go here:

http://www.walmart.com/cp/Auto-Electronics/3947?fromPageCatId=3947&catNavId=3947

If your looking for some real stuff go here:

http://www.jbl.com/EN-US/Products/Pages/MarketGroup.aspx?MID=CAR

or

http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/products/default.aspx?Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA

I'd check this out for amps it gives you a rough review user and professional also it gives you were to find it.

Most important thing is to give yourself a budget because you can get carried away with car audio. Then do some research on whats topnotch in your budget. And most importantly NEVER BUY USED AUDIO EQUIPMENT unless you know its background. People beat the snot out of there audio equipment, blow stuff all because they don't know what they are doing, I have been burned before buying a used amp and theirs a channel blown out then its useless to me. Just trying to teach others from my mistakes.

I prefer Polk. DO not buy any speaker that is made of paper.

I have bought stuff from Crutchfield for years. They will give you install kits for free that can save you a lot of time. Their support is OK, better than most (and based in the USA!). Prices are at least comparable or better than Best Buy-type places, especially if they have the product in their outlet area.

Unless you are just planning to trash & replace them regularly, stay away from cheap speakers - the definition is awful. I've been running Infinity 6022si's for a while now, they can handle a fair amount of power and are very clear. You might have to do some modding to get them in the upper rears, I drilled new holes and used their grilles as the stock 98 grilles wouldn't fit back on over them. I don't know if they are still being made, Infinity may be only producing the 6032si's now, but they are probably comparable.

Another thought is to get "marine speakers" - designed to handle a little water. Dunno about the connections, though?

As you might imagine, I think there's more about this over in the "street & performance" area.

Crutchfield all the way. They have cheap stuff all the way up to expensive stuff. Personally, I stand by Alpine. Always have. I've got the same Alpine head unit in my Jeep that I've had for about 8 years. It's been in 5 different vehicles.

Crutchfield, as mentioned, gives you install kits as well as the wiring harness you'll need.

You can get a decent amp for $100 or so. Make sure you get a 4 channel amp. You're not going to want to run the sub and door speakers on the same amp unless you run the door speakers on 2 of the channels and bridge the other two for the sub. If you do that you'll loose your left to right balance... No big deal I guess.

I've run Infiniti speakers in my past two cars and was very impressed. My XJ has Pioneer speakers in the doors and soundbar and they really put out a lot of sound.

I had ordered some Infinities in my other jeep i had.. they were nice as well.
but not for this jeep.. Polk or some thing like that may go in there.

I ll check Crutchfield...

Thanks All

Hey please check sonicelectrnoix.com I'm telling you now it's the cheapest. Then when you find what you want on their website goto their eBay store and find it there because it's cheaper and free shipping plus it's just the same company just eBay store. Stereos are my thing and to honest people might not like Kenwood units but I love mine. Their true wattage is higher than most when it come to RMS wattage. You really don't need an amp unless you buy really high end speakers that require a ton of wattage. I've had infinity, pioneer, Polk, and alpine. Infinity for the money by far was the best. Especially if you get them from the site I told you. Just to compare, and if you find it cheaper I believe they match the price, but I really doubt you will. Plus they give you the wiring harness and dash kit free, just like the expensive crutchfield.

that site is awesome! thanks for the link!

Pretty damn good deals huh, just take my advice and see if you can find it in their eBay store after you look through the website. When you buy from their eBay store try set you're account up on their webpage anyways.

There prices are better then crutchfields but seem pretty average. I have never dealt with them before though. How are they with returns, or customer service? I'm not trying to burn em I just thought that it was nothing special as far as the price goes, but I will keep them in mind next time I'm out looking for some audio equipment, I need to get 2 Bazooka tubes, an amp, and possibly a pair of speakers.

i heard bazooka tubes are junk... where would you mount them?

I'll just put up what I have. I love quality music and I think that my 'system' is pretty good.
Sony random head unit (don't know the number and I'm about 3000 miles away from it)
Best Infiniti coaxials (6.5) that Best Buy sells in front doors
Second best Infiniti 5.25 coax that best buy sells in the rear
Infiniti powered bass cube thing in back

It bumps when I want and I think that my jazz is real good when I want it to be. I have no idea what I have in it. I'd like a bigger sub as the 8" is old and the amps starting to clip itself out and I'd like a 10 but don't want to spend the money or give up the space.

Getting tube for my truck and car because they don't have enough room. There are certain tubes that suck, you have to know what to look at. In my jeep right now I have an alpine head unit with infinity speakers a no brand amp but pumps like crazy and a 12 inch infinity dual coil sub in a ported box.

Those infinity bass cubes are really awesome, I was thinking about that in place of the bazooka tubes but they are more expensive and harder to find.

Right now my jeep plays music so crisp and clear and the bass hits so hard that I can give myself a headache within 60 seconds of listening to it and its not even at max volume.

Future plans are to run an amp for HPF (High Power Frequency) to the door speakers hatch speakers, and soundbar. And another amp for the Sub.

I always go with a Pioneer or JVC head unit.Just go to walmart for that but My speakers and amps are Memphis audio. They are by far the best equipment on the market just check out you tube vids of the mojo subs.I had 2 MOJO 12's and a PR 1000 watt amp(Class D) And it was WAY to loud and the subs will handle double the power no problem. They are a little higher than most but my dad has work in the car audio industry for 25+ years and wont put anything else in his cars.

also try www.woofersetc.com, they are pretty legit and are always super cheap.
systems boil down to how its installed not what you have. you dont need a super duper head unit. my 80 dollar kenwood is 10X better than my 250 dollar alpine. my 49 dollar pioneer door speakers sound just as good w/o an amp running off my head unit power compared to my 200 dollar crystal audio and 250 dollar focal speakers that are running off amp power. i bought a MTX terminator sub system for 300 dollars which is 2 12's an amp and box. and it sounds almost as good as my image dynamic sub running off a diamond audio amp that i have in my honda.

what im getting at is this. i put higher end stuff in my honda thinking i was going to get high end sound... i did get good sound and it does sound very good, it's just not worth spending all that extra money on name brand.

i put a very base system in my jeep just cause it goes into water and dirt etc. and i wanted to be able to replace stuff without breaking the bank i never would have expected the system in my jeep to perform just as well as my honda that i put all the money into.

and keep in mind that those speakers you buy that are higher wattage require more power from your charging system in your vehicle and put more of a strain on your alt/ battery. a low wattage speaker will sound better with more power to it (25 watt speaker with 40 watts) than a higher watt speaker with not enough power to it (40 watt amp with 150watt rms speaker)

i wish i could show you in person just how good my system sound and performs and all i spent on it was 500 dollars RETAIL on EVERYTHING... thats super cheap in my book

:lecture:
buddy HPF = high pass filter
2: bazookas are no bueno
3: infinity subs are not THAT LOUD to give you a headache, i've been in trucks with 4 12's and 3000 watts throwing down 150 decibles with no headaches...
