i put mine on rear with an OEM tire carrier and i love the way it looks back there. that way my roof rack can be used for camping gear and the like

excuse the lame rear spare...will be replaced soon

I put mine in the back on the floor. I have a 4 door but the rear seat is folded down because I don't like having more than 1 person with me anyways, nor do I really ever need to. I built a "shelf" thing that buts up against the front seat that the tire slides under that way I can still put stuff on top of it but on a flat surface. The shelf is ratchet straped down and has attachement points on it.

I took my 37" Krawler off the top because of the leverage it was applying to the Jeep at extreme camber. Also, it made contact with a lot of tree branchage.
....holy shi-ite...do you have a picture of this? I don't know that I've ever seen a 37 on the roof before!

I put mine up top because I like being able to look out the back window and seeing behind me. It would also suck to swing open the tire carrier EVERYTIME that I want in the back.

On thing that does suck is not being able to pull it into the garage. I am at 5.5" and 33x12.5. How I get mine up there is I pull up next to something that is about the same height as my rear tire. Then I just stand on the rear tire and the thing that I pulled up next to and lift it up there. Not to bad in my opinion....

I went with this bumper from JCR offroad, i had it on the roof. Then i hurt my back so i put inside, lost hauling space.. This is alot better in my book...

I really liked that Bumper/Swingout but I was concerned about that latching system, looked like it might loosen up later on and cause rattling.

I went with the Wilderness for their Screw Down type latching system and I was able to get it locally, however it did add weight, my rear sunk about 2"

Here you can really tell the rear sits lower than the front

I don't think this is going to come loose, i adjusted it pretty tight.. As of now i'm very happy.. My springs are like 2 years old so i didn't sag that much..

Dont put it on the roof. The dude in the picture is using light hand pressure to pull me back onto 3 tires and keep from rolling over and off a 10' ledge to drivers. If I had a spare on the roof the picture would have been of the rig upside down. Not the first time and it wont be the last I get into that situation.

Carry it in the back for a lower CG.
I do have a modified OEM carrier that raises the spare about 7" with a skid plate under it so it doesnt hang up on ledges. 90% of the time I use it to carry a second spare to the trail head/camp site. The only time I carry the spare on the rear and not inside is when I have 3 or more passengers and a bunch of camping gear along with the spares boxes.

So I take it, it has a way to re-tighten/adjust as needed? Like I said I really like that one, when I build my wifes XJ I'll probably go with the JCR, BTW yours looks sweet, I like the color. Nice job. How was the install?
