Ok here's the photo thread for our new Adopt a Trail in Big Bear 2N04. I would like to personally thank all who showed up to help out (even those in non-XJ's). Here's some photos and a link.

Great job and pics! Whats w/ all the rock removal though? Isn't that against the rules? And besides, I think w/ some spotting you could have gotten over most of those Mike.

He's getting wimpy....

Anyhow, really- we have to move the rocks off the road that have fallen off the mountainside. As the rocks fall they push the drivers closer and closer to the outer edge of the road and as the ground shifts the edge becomes loose. Then there's a danger that the road will give way and send someone down hill.

Also if there is a drain that's eroding away the road we have to fill it in with rocks to prevent further erosion, but you can't use wimpy rocks, they'll just wash away so you had to get the big rocks to fill in the area. (I'm sore today!!)

I was the log person and wrote down everything that needed to be done and the magority is filling in those drains. We did a lot that weekend, but there's still a lot of work to do, but that's ok, it's a neat trail and well worth the work.

Well, I got home in just under four hours, can't drive my XJ much over 45 right now. Still glad I came up though, even if I was late as hell because of that and everything else. Thanks to everyone who came up!

For the next one do we still have to schedule it with the Rangers? Or if someone from those that was there the first time around goes we can show up unnanounce? I am definately interested in doing some work after Moab (maybe one of the last weekends in October?)

Hey, can I photoshop a pair of eyes on my mug? Where's my white cane? Anybody see my cane? Can't drive without that %&#@ cane!

I had a great time, there was still quite a bit of stuff that we kind of glossed over. Never did find any bodies though. Maybe next time.

Marisha, thanks for the card sampler. Cool.

Great photos and good job there. Looks very scenic and is a good thing to give back. I'll try to make the next one if i ever get this house done!!

Greg said you can go and work on the trail whenever you want. The plus side to have a ranger along is he brings a trailer and tools. I don't know where the list 'o stuff to do goes, but Ed should be able to find it.

I would go with someone who was thereso they can show you what needs to be done, and then we need to tell Greg (the ranger) so he can note the progress.

I won't be available after Moab for a while, but pick a day and people will show up to help. Get with Ed about doing another day in a couple of months.

could always ride shotgun with someone  if you can get to the meeting spot i'm sure someone would have an open seat.

on a side note- how often should the "bring ranger greg along" trips be? every 3 months? 6 months? great pics mike, and good effort by everyone that showed up! i'm glad i came and i wouldn't hesitate to come in the future. erin got a bit of a sunburn, so i'm not sure if she'd be too keen on it :D i tried to talk her into taking the ZJ, but no dice. maybe next time :shhh:

I guess we need a ranger when there's tons of trash or more than a few things to do. If it's upkept, we really shouldn't need a ranger all the much. Thinking about it on the way back, evey month is a bit over kill, but every three might not be enough... so meeting in the middle, I think every other month would keep it looking pretty darn good.

Also Greg said the best time to go is *when* it's raining to see where the water is really going, and the places that really need drains filled, since that's most of the work.

I'm gonna try and pick a weekend soon to scout the 12 "roads" that lead off of 2N04 and make a map with comments.

I would like at least one other vehicle to come along - just in case.

Will probably be cmaping up there for the weekend and making an outing of it!

Sounds like fun. I'll have to see if the dates work out for me.

I'm up for it too!

Thank you to all the people who showed up to visit our Adopt-A-Trail. We could not have picked a better day, weather and wildlife wise, as the only danger was getting sunburned. The number of XJ's was great (it made an impressive lengthly line of vehicles) as we outnumbered the others (the TJ, CJ and Zook). I trust everyone had a good time?

We can run the trail and perform maintenance anytime, furthering the work we started. If we want to tackle some of the tree hazards we will need Greg along, but the other tasks we can accomplish alone. Greg runs this trail about once a month so tracking our progress will not be too difficult.

When you set a date to run the spur trails, post the choices (maybe more than a few others can help)? If anyone has suggestions, even wild ideas like placing a picnic bench overlooking the meadow or creek, we can bounce it off Greg.

I sent Greg a link to the photos, and I will forward any of the pictures Greg sends me from his camera.

Thanks, again, for a great team effort.
