Snow wheeling options around groveland or highway 108

With all the drama in el dorado national forest, I'm looking for somewhere to take the jeep a little closer to home. I'm even considering 7n09 or boards crossing off highway 4. Anybody know of any good spots? Anyone been up
lately? Let me know.

There has to be something up 108 , probably past sonora as you head towards long barn, probably past long barn maybe?

7n09/cabbage patch is a fun place. If you run north a little bit on the fire roads from there you can take a trail to the left that takes you out to a forest service cabin that is open for anybody to use. Beautiful area too. You can get there from the corrall hollow trail running out of bear valley as well.

Boards crossing area is awesome too. Killer camping!

Theres a smaller place past groveland that my dad and I have been hoping to check out. Its called Date Flat(s) I believe. Might be worth looking into?

the 7n09 cabin is called Bear Trap Cabin. Its a Forest Service owned cabin that is open for anyone to use for up to 21 days. Its pretty legit.

Just realized that you are looking for snow wheeling areas. Bear trap cabin may be a bit far for a snow run but would be well worth it in the snow.

If you're wanting to go up hwy 4 you can also get to 7n09 just outside of Arnold. 7n09 (aka Summit Level rd) goes right through an ohv area thats on the ridge just above White Pines lake. The problem is Sierra Pacific owns most of that land and they tend to close their gates in the winter, but if you head east from the ohv area there are quite a few roads and trails to explore. There just might not be as much snow since you'll be dropping in elevation pretty quickly.

Black Springs rd (above Cottage Springs) is another option but there may be too much snow now or 6n58 which is a little bit past Dorrington.

We took shelter in that cabin when it rained terribly hard this past August. We stayed there for a few hours and got back on the trail. I'm not sure you're going to make it back there in the winter though. It's way back there. From highway 4 its got to be 10 - 15 miles.

Itd be a hefty trek to get out there in the snow, but depending on the conditions could be doable. If I sat down with you and looked at a map, I could figure out how to get there. Kinda hard to give directions off the top of my head haha
