Smittybilt XCR8 Winch Problem

I submerged my winch for bit awhile back, so I decided to take it apart, check for corrosion and regrease. After reassembly it spools a little slower and after a about ten seconds of line in it just stops working for awhile. I noticed that the spool right around the brake feels really hot. Did I mess up the initial brake position somehow? Or is the motor just pooping out? thanks

More than likely you install the brake backwards or the cable is wound the wrong direction.
The brake is self-setting in one direction.
