Slowly Stroke me

Come on down. We could always use a hand come time to go back in. Vacuum lines are going to curse me I'd almost bet. I'm going to try and delete the cruise control and the A/C stuff. Also the EGR valve is going so that is more vacuum crap to deal with.

When i did mine i bought some neon green (it was on sale) tube and ran new vac lines. Made a block off plate for the EGR and mine doesn't have cruise. Also i don't have a stock air box so all those got plugged, so with all those out of the way there is only really 4-5 lines really easy.

That's what I'm hoping but we'll see. I bought a used K&N filter intake the other day for now. Later on I will be cutting a hole in the hood and putting a scoop over it. But one project at a time. I'm going to pick up a blown 92 4.0L tomorrow and it should be the better head and intake etc that I need. If that happens, Sunday I will get to tear both engines down and then head to the machine shop early next week.

Good luck, try to label stuff to keep main caps in order, and things like that, should go pretty painless.

Yea I'm being a little anal about teardown. There is one bolt that isn't in a bag and I know what it goes too.

Got the motor to the machine shop today. I took it too Straightline Motorsports in Independence, Mo. Should have it back late next week in longblock form. He gave me a quote of 1200-1400. Thats with him getting the rebuild kit, oil filter, pushrods, valve springs, timing set, etc. It's getting bored .030, Zero deck, brass freeze plugs, true the head, hot tanked etc, and some little stuff I'm sure I forgot to mention.

I got the clutch to Kaycee Clutch in downtown KC. He's rebuilding my clutch to my application. He's also rebuilding my pressure plate, and resurfacing my flywheel. The clutch is going to be a "metallic button" clutch. Should be about 260 with tax.

I still need a few things to make the 96 head and intake etc. work with my renix motor. Hesco has an adaptor they sell for 125 bucks that allows the 96 TPS to work the with the renix controller.

I also need a few things off a 96-98 (IIRC) XJ

1. Fuel rail return line
2. Throttle cable

I also need to get the basic cap, rotor, plugs, wires, blah blah blah. The boring stuff nobody cares about.

You could probably buy some fuel line and make you own, and same with the throttle cable, most auto parts stores have a "universal" kit that you can pick up.

Got the clutch back yesterday and I'm too lazy to get the pics off of my phone. It was 30 bucks cheaper than what he quoted me too. Gotta love that.

Still waiting for the machine shop. Also still looking for the line and cable but I think I may have one. I'm going to wait for the engine to be back before I order all the piddly crap.

Thats the part that took me the longest...the damn machine work.

I did talk to the machinist and it's in shortblock form now but I thought he was getting the head bolts and he thought I was bringing in the old ones. I also forgot the washer and bolt for the timing set. Oh well I have to take him some other stuff to so I get to get out of the house on Mon.

What all are you having them do to it?

He decked the block, bored .030, reconditioned rods, turned the crank .020, the usual cam bearing, brass freeze plugs, and all the assembly of the motor. I had him source the rebuild kit for it and told him I wanted the thinnest HG they made for it. .043 IIRC Since he decked the block he is also measuring for pushrods, setting lifter preload, etc.

Parts list

89 4.0L block
198? 258 crank turned .020
KB944 Forged pistons
4.0L Rods
Sealed power Moly Ring set

Get the video camera fired up i wanna see

I want to see a video of you doing a gnarly power stall in the Taco Bell drive through all the while you are eating some nachos...nothing more, nothing less

:roflmao:And you must now get custom plates that say "noballz"

You guys crack me up. $600 worth of tires on the rear and you want to see the second coming of Smokey and the Bandit. When it comes time for tires that may be an option.

I did drive it around the block last night, and by block I mean about 3 miles. My buddy lives in the country, gravel roads, no traffic and a lead foot. Never did go more than 3/4 throttle but it's poo's and gets. It is like cheesy butter it's so smooth. I can't help but spin a tire taking off in first in the gravel. The clutch grabs quickly with absolutely no slipping of the clutch.

I didn't get to go over 45ish as I was fighting some DW when the motor went and sitting for nearly 4 months on bias tires it got worse. Didn't see that one coming.

On Sunday I have to try and figure out an issue with the harmonic balancer and belt, see oem tech forum. Probally should change the oil and get all the air out of the cooling system. That's kind of a pain in the arse. I'm going to get me one of the funnels with the plug and radiator cap to see if that helps.

I'll get some video on Sunday after we et it all figured out.

Sherman my plates are already personalized. I took the plates I had on my KJ for my XJ when we traded the KJ in. I WHLIT is on there now. Looked really bad for the couple weeks before we tagged the van since that tag was on the windstar.

Ahh darn, but yes smoke is required when finishing a stroker :D
A trick on the cooling system, pull the upper hose off and pour fluid directly in it there, on mine i even cracked the drain plug a little while i did it.
