Hey everyone, when i shift my tranny from park to drive or park to reverse i get a real bad THUD and it goes into gear. I pulled the rear diff cover off and discovered this. What type of locker is this i cant really tell.

Looks like a Lockrite or Aussie.

Edit: looking closer than seems to be a 8.25 diff, so most likely a Lockrite.

My 8.8 with a Detriot has about that much "slack" in it as well, just a normal part of the locker's operation. If you think it's excessive, find a lockrite writeup on here and delve into it.

Well, the video wasn't the greatest quality, as I couldn't see into the diff extremely well.

If the rear tires are on the ground, I would check the cross pin hole on the locker, they maybe have become elongated, and therefore the carrier will start to move, and the locker should too, but since the hole is oblong, the crosspin can travel in it a short distance, then bang into the side of the hole, creating the banging noise you are hearing, and providing the slop you are seeing. (The carrier spins a short distance before it puts load on the axle shafts)

If those tires are jacked up, and the transmission is in park, I might check out your transfer case.

Edit: I would definitely check the cross pin hole in the locker.

That's a Powertrax No-Slip.

It is normal to have that much "backlash" play. The cross pin holes (half a hole in each locker half) are eliptical to allow for movement which allows each half to unlock as needed.

yeh definately didnt look like excessive backlash at all.....the pinion seemed to contact the ring gear like it should...hard to tel by the video but looked fairly normal...usually that clunk u hear is associated with the transfer case, especially if its a 242....they are notorious for that
