simple 4 link question

so the problem with regular steering is the pushing fore from the gear box to the links? how much is a full hydro setup.

Yes, that is the biggest problem. You also run into the same problem as described regarding the track bar (panhard) above... the tie rod tries to make the suspension follow an arc that the 4 link is designed to prevent.

One could always "notch" the oil pan slighty. Or in my case when I do my traingulated front, I might just buy another oilpan, cut and notch it (not alot, but enough) then have someone TIG it. At most it would take 1/4 a quart of oil out of the pan. Full hydro will run you about $1000, maybe a little more if done right.

Well, yes and no.

With the amount of triangulation shown in the drawing, you'll be fine without one as far as locating the axle, it's just that you'll want to do full hydro steering or else it'll be one hell of a handful going down the road/trail.

If you add a track bar to the setup as shown, you'll have wicked bind as the trackbar will try and force an arc through travel that the 4-link won't allow. At that point you'd probably want to go with a 3-link and panhard setup if you're keeping the mechanical steering link.

Here's my setup, which is the 3-link and panhard as described above:

Works great so far, with a regular steering setup and hydro assist.
looks like you went out to that burt out eclipse again. did you take more pics or video?

The lower links pictured will likely hit the drive shaft. I could not triangulate my lowers that much. And your upper will hit the housing since it is a high pinnion so you will need much shorter upper links and notch them up high into the frame or they will hit the center section on flex.

I think you should buy some brackets from ballisticfab.com and do a simple radius arm 3link that will fit easy and it wont be challenging and keep your stock steering box.

My front doubletriangulated 4link with full hydro was difficult to fit.
I should have bought "like 7.5in" of lift?

You have many issues and will get very frustrated if you try to build what you have planned.

I also dont like the truss.

i am really considering doing an easier set up, but what would be the easist change just a regular 3 link. the crossmember is in really early stages(no transmisson plate and side frame rail mounts). im thinking of just cutting off all of the brackets on the crossmember and axle and just haveing a radius arms set up where there is two long arms on the outside and then on that sits higher up on the cross member then connects higher up on the axle. it looks the simplist. like i said before the guy who was helping me knew what he was doing but now i really am not 100% sure of how to made the 4 link even work good. the upper brakets on the axle are just sitting there and not welded.

im not a real hardcore offroader i really just wanted someting to have fun in. is this set up ok, i belive it is a radius arm set up it seems simple enought.

The last picture is a parellel 3- 4link. That will work.

check out http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/

You could do two of these for the lower links and coil buckets.

You could do one of these for the single upper axle end mount.

you could use this on the passenger side frame end mount under the frame.

You could probibly use this on the drivers side for the upper and lower link frame end mount

You could use this for the axle end traction (panhard bar that would be parallel and equal length to your steering drag link.

ashman do u work at ballistics, i just bought a couple hundred dollar of stuff from there. i think i have everything to do the set up below besides the track bar and its mount. if i do this paralell 3 link will have 2 extra hiems. how does this look now, i like the trackbar mount from ballistics but yeah ballistics really gave me a good deal and sent the stuff out early so i could start my project.

:roflmao:

No, that's an old pic.

I went and recovered Matt today though, he got stuck about 5 miles away from the yard in a sand pit. Nice little drive with XJ and a straight tug got him back on all 4 and mobile again. :rof:

I'll pack my camera tomorrow, I'll see if I can do that again and get someone to snap some pics this time.

No I dont work for ballistics, but most of the guys that do work there I wheel with. That would be a fund job. I buy my materials there and jeff cuts me up stuff when I need it.

The Green panhard bar axle mount I would move closer to the knuckle if you can without it hitting the coil bucket. Are you doing High steer? you should do the your steering first then make the panhard bar parallel to the steering. The same lenght as the drag link would be ideal.

The Red link at the axle end Iwould move more twards the knuckle, With it trangulated as you have shown it will fight the panhard bar some. But I have seen guys run a trangulated uppers with a panhardbar and not have issues. You need to do what fits some times. No mater how much you design you need to do what fits.
