deer valley was a great location.
plenty of camp sites, 2 lakes near by to swim in,
slick rock, corral hollow, & boards crossing are all close by as well
so it seems like a good central location.

I like the Deer Valley run in June, and turning it into Sierra Fest in July this year seemed to be a sucsess, and it seems more central for our chapter, but if Sierra Fest is geared to all of CA and NV chapters, then, maybe Swamp is better. So many choices. Dave presents a lot of cool ideas for it.

So the idea is to rase money for land use, and more people is more money. Better to get as many people as we can to come out and play. Also to pay for a good meal, win some good raffle stuff and make some shirts for everyone buy, so everyone is getting more for our buck then just giving away cash to land use.

Dear Vally area is more friendly for lots of rigs, even the stockers can run some of the trails in that area. Makes for a good turn out, but we just ran that trail system this year, so maybe some will not come because they just did it this year.

I think the 2003 or 2004 Rubicon/Barret/Fordyce run was almost too much for most, I was not at the run, but from the now legindary stories, even for the ones that thought they were ready it was a very long day on the trail. If we were to run a trip like that we would need lots of good suport, or not try to run all three trails in one week.

We have done Goatmans Swamp/Dusy/Bald for SierraFest a few times, not as hard as Rubicon/Barret/Fordyce but not as easy to get to for many of the members of our chapter.

Any ideas are very helpful so please keep the thoughts comming.

I am all for having Sierra Fest at Swamp Lake next year I am aslo open to having it at Deer Valley again. As we get closer we could maybe take a vote and have it open to the entire chapter?

I am really happy everyone had suck a kick butt time on Deer Valley. A huge part of that is the people who come out and the people who support the chapter.

Hard to say, the last time they did it people came from all over the place, lots of people drove a very long way to run the Rubicon, so it was not just the Sierra Chapter people. I was not there but I think it was one of the bigger turn outs.

Even if the 2011 SierraFest is not at Deer Valley, we will still have a Deer Valley run in 2011.

But I don't care where it ends up, I just want to see lots of people, so please keep posting up your input.

The ol' Fordyce, Rubicon, Barrett run will never happen again. I tried it again and failed miserably in 2006. Why? Several reasons. Mostly due to the fact that has grown quite a bit since 2004. The Rubicon has become more accessible than ever for members. Even the SoCal and Northwest chapters have had their own Rubicon runs planned.

Another point is the rigs that are in the Sierra Chapter are not as capable as in the past, especially when the group was much smaller. There are a few other reasons I'm sure. Letterman and I led a newbie Rubicon run in the summer of 2007. I don't think it has been attempted since.

I will say that the Deer Valley run has gained some momentum in the last few years and should be continued. It is an easy and scenic trail that allows more people to attend without the strict requirements that a Rubicon/Fordyce run would require.

Yeah that makes sense Bryan It seems the more I talk to people the more I am finding out money is tight and it seems like there Jeeps are there daily drivers meaning that they couldn't afford to lose them. I do not daily drive mine however I couldnt afford to replace it at this point. The reason I bought my Jeep was to tow my quads,for trips in the snow and to access our lake property so a 4 wheel drive is a must. So I could careless about how my paint looks or dents as long as ever thing functions. And I was close to flopping it as Hollister about 2 weeks ago so sometimes I push it harder that I should. I know people will make fun of me for not being hardcore balls to the wall but at the end of the day I decide where my build is going and what trails my Jeep takes.

I'll do Deer Valley again regardless if its the official SierraFest run or not.

If SierraFest is at Swamp I will try and make it since I have been wanting to go there but have never been. The problem is it is a long way from Reno so I don't know if any of the other Reno guys would be able to come too.

I also agree with Bryan C about the Fordyce/Rubicon/Barrett run. I think it is too much trail for just one week and what most rigs would allow. That being said, almost all the rigs at this years SierraFest in DV were built to handle the Rubicon and do well. Most were on 35's, and I think there were maybe only 1 or 2 rigs on 31's or less. That was the only disappointment with SierraFest I had - that there weren't more stocker / lesser-built rigs on the easy trails. We are giving people who are new a great opportunity to come and wheel without destroying their rigs, yet very few came. So if the majority of rigs are built to handle the Rubicon, why not do SierraFest on the "Con again? We most certainly would still do another DV trip regardless. Just a thought.

I would be willing to travel to swamp lake from Reno. I have lots more
time off this year. So i am what ever, DV is still fun & will like to run it next year.

Goatman has been putting together a Aug. Swamp Lake run for over 10 years now, and SharkMark has held the Deer Valley run for 3 or 4 years (Mostly in June or early July).

Regardless of where SierraFest ends up next year, I beleave Swamp and Deer Valley will still be runs next year.

Yes I am volunteering - I have a small house but a big back yard and a huge driveway and a large BBQ I could easily cook for everyone.
