Shock length question

Hey guys,

I need soem help. I will be ordering new shocks this week. I have decided on Bilstein 5100's. I have searched and found they make them for a 4" inch lift. I will be installing an RE 4.5" kit. My question is this, should I get the 5125 with a specific length measured or will the 4" shocks be OK? How do I know what length to get? I do not want to wait for the springs to be installed, then measured. This is my daily driver so I need to install the shocks when I change out the springs.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

If you want the "perfect" length, wait and measure and then order. Also are you going to be moving the shockmounts up? Definately consider doing so as they are great for only catching on things. THe thing is though, when you do so, you end up needing way shorter shocks.

Btw, when are you doing your lift install? I might have some longer shocks that you can borrow, but I won't be able to dig for them for about the next 3 weeks (finishing up packing and leaving for loooooooooong vacation).

Yea, thats totally key. You really need to measure for yourself to make sure you get exactly what you need. Nothing is worse then spending all the money only to find out your nice new shocks are your limiting straps. While they may say "this will work with a 4" lift" that does not mean thats what you need. there is a lot more varibles that come into play then that. So its best to flex it out totally maxed with no shocks, measure, measure the compressed side and then order. That way you know you'll be cool. Ideally you'll have some spare shaft on both sides of the spectrum.

Remember from what i hear, its always better to have too much shaft, then not enough...... :gag:
