Shaving 8.25?

And Kejtar, If you would pull your diff cover once in a while and change your gear oil you'd see ten little silver rings just like that 1/2 of one on the bottom.:)
?? I know there is a bolt on the bottom as I keep having to take it out when I change my gear oil.

That was totally a sawzall job.which is the way to do it..Im part machinist part mold maker, and I dont see mounting that on a mill, a standard size mill anyway without custom built fixtures to hold it down..but thats just silly to go to all that work for just 1/2".. and also a chry 8.25 is 2/3 as strong as a Dana-44.
I fab stuff and install it on my back and I don't think thats ghetto.. Im not at all against trimming/shaving rear ends but go easy ! :twak:

C'mon now, I took the sawzall to mine laying on my back.

I was able to take off a little over 1/2". After that I took the flapper disk to it and was able to go even higher while smoothing it out.

Hell, I even welded on CA mini skids while the axle was still under the XJ. Should I have pulled it out for that?

There's no rule of etiquitte for working on a vehicle. I may fab most of my own parts and install them on my back. Does this make me ghetto?:)

Oh, and turn up the brightness on your screen because It looks like a normal photo with shadows to me.

Well you guys can ooo & awww all you want over this super duper 8.25 mod but I'm still thinking it's a photochop job. If he's got a decent pic of it in the daylight I'll buy, otherwise it's bs.

Now where to mount my fire extinguisher.........decisions decisions.

I'm one that didn't oooh or ahhh. Matter of fact I personally think it's a mistake to go that high and chop your best cover holding screw off.

Get his ballsy (read stupid) butt back on here to clear this up so we can end this.

Here is an idea for your fire extenguisher.

That's the way it's supposed to look?

Damnit! I shaved the wrong side. I thought it was supposed to give the housing more room to stuff higher.

You noticed that too? :D

Thats what disspelled the photoshop idea for me, unless someone was really really paying attention during the editing.

On my 8.25, I just plan on taking off alot of the bottom lip, and what I leave will be angled in a effort to make is less likely to catch on somehting while moving forward.

Well I did see that, but it could also be someone using the rubber stamp tool & NOT paying close attention during editing. When you move the rubber stamp tool the "copy" moves also and will pull the "copy" from a different spot thus sometimes stamping unwanted images.

All I'm saying is it's either booty-fab or a bad photochop. I could whip up the same exact image in about 5 mins...........hmmm maybe a new post?

Crap, I didn't think about that. Its for real though. I think he went too far too, but live and learn. He's a good guy, you guys shouldn't be so hard on him.

Ketjar, just shave the lip till you're comfortable. At first I just shaved up to the diff cover, which helped keep the dangling part from "catching" rocks. I ground down a little more into the cover, kept it really smoothe, and now though my diff still smacks rocks (only 31s) it will slide over them a lot easier than before. Grind a safe amount first and then worry more about the paper thin diff cover.

bringing back this thread from the grave...

i want to shave my 8.25, and am all set on the actual mechanics of physically shaving it. my question is, has anyone shaved an 8.25 with an aftermarket diff cover? specifically a riddler? or even a picture of the riddler mounted to an 8.25? if not, i'm going to just do it (not sure exactly when, but sometime soon) and i'll post my results...

My buddy shaved mine while we were putting my 8.25 in. I had a Ruff Stuff cover and he held it up, and then made the cuts. After it was all cut he ground the bottom lip smooth with the bottom of the cover. Riddler should be no different.
