So, I'm trying to fill out this application for a Federal position. The page I'm on has a couple of questions about registering for the Selective Service. I never registered. I turned 18 in boot camp and did nearly 8 years active duty. I was always told that I didn't have to register, as I was already in the military(makes sense). The obvious answer to Q18 is no.
The choices for Q19 are YES, NO, NOT APPLICABLE. It seems to me that I should answer NA to 19, but I'd like to know for sure. I'd answer YES due to my service, but I don't have a 'copy of the exemption' unless my DD-214 serves that purpose. The 214 states my "RESERVE OBLIG. TERM. DATE" as 1998-09-21, which is prior to my discharge date of 1998-10-01 (no reserve time required).
Anybody know for sure?
*18. If you are a male at least 18 years of age, born after December 31, 1959, have you registered with the Selective Service System?
*19. If you are a male at least 18 years of age, born after December 31, 1959 AND you have NOT registered with the Selective Service System, do you have an approved exemption?
(Note: You will be asked to provide a copy of the exemption prior to interview and selection.)
