SeaFoamed it, now it won't start

Its a 96. I found the wireing diagram for the ignition system and there is a 15 amp fuse in the PDC. I'm on my way to check it.

engine ground, I went through this situation when I was trying to get the stroker started. Tried for an hour. sat down, thought about it, cut up my amp ground wire(2ga) and used it to ground the motor, then it started on the first time. I had no fuel pressure or anything.

All the fuses are functioning properly and I tried another relay in the pump relay sockt, the pump still does not work.

a little off topic, but everything I'm reading is telling me that I have a 20.2 gallon tank but the most I have ever put in it was 16 gallons when the needle was below the empty line. did 96's come with 15gal tanks or did someone put the wrong fuel pump in this at some point?

i'm off to check engine grounds/add a nice shiny new one to make sure.

I used a set of jumper cables quick to go from the negative side of the battery to a few different spots on the engine and i'm still not geting any pressure in the fuel rail and no noise from the pump. Wolfpack, are you saying that because your block wasn't grounded your fuel pump wouldn't work either?

i hate to say it but fuel pumps just go one day for no reason. they work one minute and not the next. check the fuel pump at the pump itself. do you have a 12v cordless drill? run jumper wires from the battery of the drill to the fuel pump wires and see if it pumps. i dont think the 96's have a ballast resistor, but they may. if it does you can bypass that as well to see if it starts. it sounds like you are having a fuel issue. did you put the seafoam in the tank as well or just the TB? not that i think that might be a problem just wondering. wish you were closer i would come try to help.

good luck

no, I was saying that I had a similar no start condition, no fuel pressure, starting fluid only ran for a few seconds, ect; and when I changed the grounds out it started right up. I have no clue if a ground would affect the fuel pump like that, I would not think so. I just know that when I changed mine out, my similar situation was fixed.

good luck.

and grim, what is with the uterus and ovaries in your avatar?

Its strange how the fuel pump would stop working exactly at the same time that I added the seafoam to the t-body. I did add some to the tank earlier in the week. Now that I think about it for the past few weeks it has taken a few extra cranks to start the engine, could have been signs.

Did you pour the seafoam directly in the TB or through the booster hose? If directly, you might have soaked some of the sensors. Did you accidentally swap adjacent injector plugs?

Directly into the TB, I've done it that way a few times with no ill effect before. I think I have some spare sensors around I could try. I think its the pump though because I have power on both sides of the relay and but the pump isn't pumping.

There's also a connector for the fuel pump underneath in front of the rear axle if you want to check voltage there.

Even so, let's say he trashed every sensor it has it would still prime when the key is turned to on. Also you can assume the CPS is good (or functioning to a certain degree) since it runs with fluid, which indicates spark. I'd say you found your problem-fuel pump or the circuit to it. Did you test for 12v at the pump?

the tank is indeed both. the only difference between the 15 and the 20 gallon tank is where the fill nozzle is. in the 20 gal tank they put the fill nozzle on the top(certain packages) and in the cheaper packages the put it on the side so it only filled to 15 gallons. same tank so it was easier to mass produce

Its the pump. One of the guys I work with was a mechanic at a Jeep dealership. When I told him whats goin on he said the SeaFoam is just a coincidince. There was a sign that the pump was going bad a week or two ago when it took a few cranks to get it running after it was shut off. He said that what probably happened was that the regulator went bad so it would bleed back into the tank when it was shut off and when the engine was running the pump had to work harder to pump the fuel because some of it was leaking out of the reg back into the tank. The former Jeep mechanic is helping me find a pump unit for it, there's a national back order for the things. It will try to run when I am hitting the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallot. He said that at the dealerships when they had to replace a bad pump they would get one guy hanging out the back hatch with a mallot hitting the tank while someone drove it onto the lift.

Thank you all for your time, it kept me from pulling my hair out and just pushing it over the bank.

I have a junked 96 that I am parting out, I have the entire sending unit and pump. I'll test the pump to see if it works, if it does do you want it? It would be free, jsut pay me for the shipping is all I ask.
