Scary start-up noises

I'm about to drop the oil pan to find out what the shop messed up when they replaced the rear main seal (engine loses pressure after it's fully heated up) and wanted to address the problem the motor has on startup. Basically when the motor first fires for approximately 2-3 seconds it sounds like there isn't any oil. What would cause this, perhaps the pickup is clogged?? I'm starting to get confused on this so if anybody could help me that would be great.

thanks

Might the oil pickup not put back in right.
Depends on how they replaced the seal, if they used a 'sneaky pete' they only needed to loosen the rear mains, otherwise they might have loosened all the mains and not retorqued them correctly.
The sneaky pete is a cable with one threaded end and the other with a ring on it, it is used to pull the new seal back thru the top of the of the main.

i got the same problem.....had my rear main and oil pan gasket replaced....now have wierd startup noise like a bearing binding up due to no oil then once the pump starts pumping i have a noticable ticking noise not there previously. I have decent oil pressure when the oil and block are cold but after 10- 15 minutes I lose pressure and start hearing that noise and pretty soon the valves are clattering bc they have no oil....and the shop owner is saying its my fault....I am calling a lawyer tommorrow....

i was told that since he left it broke down over the weekend that the block dried up and stuff so when he put new oil in and fired it up on monday that alot of trash went through the bearings and quite possibly be the cause of my problems...i got that from my normal mechanic...diff shop did my work since it was important
