Probably heading up to Santa Maria this weekend for some BBQ sampling
and camping.
Any tips on the local camping sites, fishing (fresh) areas and any Off-Road trails
for stock XJ ????
There is a place called "rock front" off of 166. You can google for more info.
The dunes are about half hour north of Santa Maria. There is camping on and off the beach.
If you camp at the Oceano campgrounds you get a free day pass to the beach. And if you camp on the beach, you obviously get to wheel for free.
Lopez Lake is about 45 min. There is camping/fishing there. Not sure how good the fishing is tho. Haven't gone to fish there in years, even when I did it was mostly chillin on the boat drinking beer.
I usually work most of the day Saturday, but I'm pretty close to the beach. Let me know if you decide to go.
There is also a place called "Garcia Ridge" for wheeling as well.
Cencal96xj is more familiar with that tho.
Just noticed the "stock" XJ part. Not sure if garcia will work for that. haha.
Thanks for the info. Trying to head out Friday early afternoon; but
trying to get someone to cover for me at work is not easy.
I want to go by the Burger joint in Jalama on Friday early evening
and then head a little NEast to camp and then come back in Sat for BBQ,
back out another nite to camp and then on the way home Sunday, come
back in for some more BBQ at a different place in Santa Maria.
That is the plan -- but you never know. Last weekend my battery died
before I even had a chance to head out. Bought the XJ used and the
battery sticker never was punched out for purchase date -- never knew if it was 6 mos old or 5 yrs old when I bought it.
Thanks -- I will try it next time I am up.
The biggest problem was that most of the places do not open until 4 pm.
Found a great place in Orcutt -- Far West Tavern on the way up from Jalama on Sat and went by BOTH Hitchin Posts (closed) and Shaws
in Santa Maria (closed). Settled for road side BBQ in the middle of town
and then some Tri-Tip at Andersen's in Buellton on the way home.
There was also AJ's in Buellton, but they were closed also.
I will be going back up in a few weeks and will try Rancho Nipomo.
