Rusty's has Roller Rockers?

interesting---you're probably right

The product description leaves something to be desired.

I guess I'll have to call & ask for details, though I figure I'm still not going to shell out $400 for them.

AS ADVERTISED(Product Description)
These are designed to provide an actual 1.6:1 ratio, eliminating the loss of lift resulting from flexure of the stock weak rocker arms. They have been designed to fit to the '91 and newer 4.0L head.

Isn't stock 1.6:1 and what the heck does "fluxure" mean.
X2 on the Harland Sharp thing, maybe Rusty is now a Re-seller for him.

From Dino's site: "Unlike stock stamped steel rockers, roller rockers maintain a constant indicated rocker arm ratio throughout the full valve lift because the center line of the roller stays constant and only its contact with the valve stem center line changes.
Increasing rocker arm ratio (stock rockers are 1.6 ratio) increases the valve lift without having to change the camshaft. Using longer-ratio rockers typically increases engine torque and HP in the mid range. After you install longer-ratio rockers, be sure to check that the piston-to-valve clearance is adequate (minimum 0.040") before running the engine." (http://www.jeep4.0performance.4mg.com/valvetrain.html)

Yeah, 1.6 is the stock ratio. I'm assuming "flexure" is longhand for "flex". Heh. Dino's paragraph describes the difference--it's not that the stock ones flex, exactly, but that they don't keep a constant center line. The loss of lift would have to be minimal. But the RRs create less friction, and presumably stock rockers will wear out faster. I'm only interested because my stock rockers looked like some animal with steel teeth has been chewing on them.

They *look* just like the Harland Sharp ones. Same color that is. It's not a very common color, but who knows.

They ARE the same Harland Sharp RR's that I have featured on the Valvetrain page of my performance website. Rusty's sell them for $400, while Summit Racing sell them for $101 less under part no. CSP-S40096.

Hmm. Looks like Hesco's Mopar RR's ($94) + valve cover spacer ($80) + thermostat spacer ($28) is the best (i.e. cheapest) route. Didn't know until today that Hesco was carrying the Mopars

(followed Dino's site to find that out)

Thanks for the info, people; Dino esp.

that's $94 per cylinder. Hesco is NEVER the cheapest route :D

I have the Mopar RR's...

They're $600 a set...

NOT $94

What kind of power gains could you see out of these? Also, would getting these result in longer engine life?

NO noticeable power gains at avg XJ rpms is the consensus...

My excuse was sinking good money into a stroker sold me on the notion they might help build a smoother, longer lasting engine...

Oh...

and definately the bling factor

:D

So, you're going with the clear valve cover?:D

I need a valve cover?

by the time the engine is done...

transparent metal alloys will be a reality...

Got Star Trek IV?

:D

I'll be running a Mr Fusion, anyway

fixed :D

Hey Dino, the ones on the Summit web site say they are not self aligning. Does that mean they come as 12 individual rocker arms instead of 6 rocker arm pairs? And will they work without having to use guidplates?

The Harland Sharp RR's are stud-mounted so yes, you'll definitely need guideplates plus chrome moly hardened pushrods, and the RR's do indeed come as individual units and not pairs (like the shaft-mounted Mopar units or the Yella Terras.

A whopping 1.5hp on an otherwise stock 4.0.
