Any body use these? Im looking at putting them all the way around my MJ, but Ive never installed the fronts or rears, and Ive never even seen a pair of the rears installed....just curious how the rears are....furthermore, do these fenders crack after gravity pulls my little truck back to earth after being airborne? Just your opinions...would greatly be appreciated.

someone may please chime in and correct me if im mistaken, but i beleive the flares rustys sells are hannemans.

here is Baja_XJs cherokee with full glass. if you search you can find more. i beleive i saw an install thread somewhere. weekend warriors and big wig racers alike run them. when done correctly theyll last as long as the jeep. think about it, many race cars have full fiberglass bodies. check the picture thread.

race cars often finish races missing fiberglass. if your worried about it, theyre not for you.

saying fiberglass is as tough as sheetmetal is retarded, it'll last if you never hit anything. the example is retarded too.

i'd say theyre as durable as a good paint job, anything you hit hard enough to scratch paint on a car, will mess up fg.

ouch... harsh much?

think about the forces involved with a race. even jeep speed rigs come accross the line missing fiberglass. it happens at that level of stress. in a lot of cases, trucks cost the line completely in tact, while more severe structual damage is hidden underneath. and no one said they were as strong as sheet metal... but as long as properly installed they arent going to simply rattle off. all it is is a bit of body work. nothing more.

metal doesnt bend when you hit something? :dunno: i dont think i got that upgrade on my jeep.

well, I'm not so worried about it. Im just realativley new to the world of jeepspeed, Im no newbie to jeeps, and esspecially XJ/MJ projects. This particular experience is what raises my question. 84'-96' XJ's came with a fiberglass rear hatch, and if you see these wheeling in the rocks, (which is commonplace here on naxja) the develop a crack on either side of the hatch, following the bottom line of the window, and exending over to the tail light. now, I'd imagaine that jumping a jeep, or taking one over the whoops you guys do can jar a flex a jeep much more than crawling in the rocks. This leads me to belive that fiberglass will crack even more. Is the fenders mentioned made of a different material? I just dont want to jump my MJ once, and look at my fenders to see a shit-ton of little hairlines, or worse....

You'll be fine if you don't hit anything. I've aired mine out a few dozen times, and slammed through some harsh whoops with no I'll effects. Also keep in mind trophy truck glass is paper thin for weight savings. Most jeepspeeds I know are running the same glass season after season.

ive hit mine on bush branches that hang over the trail plenty of times at 30+ mph, the only place they have cracked is around the mounting screws. mine came from rustys, and they are identical to hanneman flares. I can't confirm if they are from hanneman or not, but I put mine side by side with a pair of hannemans that were going onto a friends XJ before I mounted them and I couldnt tell the difference. :dunno:

My front fender has stood the weight of the vehicle with only paint damage.
My rear glass has pushed in as far as 3" and popped right back out with nothing but paint damage.

I rolled the race Jeep and at Parker one year and did have one of the front fenders crack pretty bad while the group of people trying to right the car rocked it back and forth.

Rusty's glass is way tough!

thanks guys, I do appreciate it, and Ill be installing them soon. Anybody know where togo to get the Jeepspeed offical rule book....all I know right now is ni bogger than 33's, a motor that has been fitted in a production jeep, if im wrong correct me please. I's just like to know. My MJ is gonna get a 401 (if rule abiding) and coilovers.

wow I just read most of the rules....did I read that right? No aftermarket or dealer installed options allowed on the motor? unless its removal of emmisions stuff? so It'd be pointless to put a 401 in it and try and compete...even in the 3700 series.

thanks for the help guys. Ill search around some more and find more rules. IM gonna build this MJ to the hilt.
