Rubbing the fenders with 32s

Just put on an RE 4.5 inch Superflex with 32inch BFG MTs...The tires rub a little on the bumper fenders during sharp turns etc...Anyone else have this problem and a good solution to keep the stock look of the fenders and bumpers but to stop the rubbing...just start sawing? or sanding?

X2..or shell out the $$$ for some bushwackers, or get some rear TJ flares and trim them nicely to fit.

ok i was lying and it doesnt look like your doing the same.

you can cut and trim and still keep it nice, you can even reuse your old flares. i just cut the snot out of mine and covered them with tj flares

The first thing I had to do was remove the bumper caps on my '99. I couldn't turn my wheel 180 degrees without the tires digging into the caps. I also did a flex test to check everything and I ended up trimming the back side of the rear wheel well after removing the rear plastic end cap. Also, the first time I took it off-road (dropping into Cliffhanger in Moab) I folded in my front fenders from tire contact. I also rubbed the inner fender liner and bent some the fender flare bolts. Next time my fenders will be cut more.

My setup at the time was RE 4.5" with drop brackets and Pro-Comp 32" MTs. A 3" bumpstop extension up front and DPG plates in the rear.

Yes you can cut and trim and not look that bad, depends on how much you need to trim. I was agreeing because I know people that are really pickey about this. I just relocated my stock flares but I cut a lot, so where they are positioned they have gaps n stuff. Like I said TJ flares or wackers would take care of this.

The key is to flex it out...see where it hits, and take only as much out as you require....and have adequate bumpstops so your shocks aren't limiting your uptravel and the bumpstops are being hit right before your tire hits the wheel well.

Now you can probably see your reflection on a few choice rocks where all that :sunshine: paint decided it was too good to stay on my rig.

What kind of wheels (rims) are you running?? Are you sure that you arn't rubbing your lower control arms?? If the back space on the wheels are close to stock, then in a sharp turn you will rub the LCA's. I could be completely mistaken, but if there is a chance that you are rubbing them, you can check by looking at your LCA's. If your rubbing, there will be scuff marks from where the tires are hitting them. If you are rubbing them by chance, you can invest in some deep dish wheels with a bigger back space, wheel spacers (which I wouldnt reccomend), or some new skinnyer LCA's (skyjacker makes some good ones..expensive). Personally, I would invest in new wheels...Looks better.

Just a thought.....could be far from right.
