Rough Country drop bracket install w/ pics

makes since! It does ride alot smoother and will flex like mad now. I used my new deg. finder it says the caster is about 5 deg. I also checked the drag link and track bar they are about 11 to 11 1/2 deg. I do know they need to be very close to the same. But before it just had a stiff ride with sharp predictable bump steer and the steering was tight feeling. I didn't even have to run the sway bar. Now it seams like it has a mushy feel in the wheel and it leads me all over the road I have to work the wheel to drive straight. I am thinking I need some more + caster and toe to force the jeep straight down the road. I also did some measuring of the control arms. The ones that I got when I bought the lift will fit. I will have to install them at the most negative setting and go up from there.

~7 is what you are shooting for. If you use an angle finder on the diff cover bolts i believe you do 9 minus the number on the angle finder for HIGH PINION axles.

If low pinion I'm not sure of what number you use.

But even with 5 degrees you shouldn't be having any problems with the wheels not wanting to return to center, etc..I've read up numerous times where people are running 5 or 6 degrees and do not have any issues!

You really don't want any less than that or anything above 8 I'd say. Yes it is supposed to be very specific and precise but you can cheat a little and get by just fine.

Thanks I meant -5 but I took that measurement from the bottom of the knuckle not the diff cover.

Thanks! I am going to do some research on home alignments.

I think the only way to accurately measure caster from the knuckle is to pop out the balljoints and stick a rod through the holes, all the while the vehicle remains at ride height.

if i have to much caster then will it wear the inside of the tires?
im running the drop brackets with a 4.5 lift and im on 33's with stock control arms and my caster is at 8.8 degrees and the inside of my tires are wearing and the jeep wanders and pulls to the left.
need some help

Castor does not wear out tires it sounds like your toe is out. So when you drive down the road the left tire is going left and the right tire is going right so you the driver have to fight to keep going straight.

Thats funny I could not run my stock arms at 4.5" I could only get 4 deg caster at full adjustment.

I love how i called rough country twice and they were so quick to tell me the drops would fit a comanche. They just failed to mention that the support bracket would not fit....... Now I find out about a 20% restocking fee and in store credit only! Thanks for the awsome customer service rough country!

did you deal with Jason (GRIMUS99XJ) ?? as far as fit, yes they fit a MJ w/o the braces and I have seen guys run them on MJ's w/o the braces w/o any problems. If you have not spoke with Jason, try and give him a call, he has been more then helpful for hundreds of satisfied XJ/MJ customers.

Oh yeah. Just run 'em.

The MJs have c/a brace built into the unibody that will serve your purpose just fine.

Robert

Yes they will fit without the support, i just wanted the extra strenght and protect the back side from getting hung up. I could make my own but no time thats why i wanted a bolt in kit. Maybe i will try to talk to jason and see if he can help me out.

Well like all said jason is the man and cleared up everything as for what I said earlier this time I mean it customer service was great! Hope they will build a mj kit in the future.....

Dude, they build an MJ kit right now.

I'm sorry you didn't like it, but I'm glad Jason made you happy...

Jumped to fast i see..All you need to do is ask these guys who to talk too..All the companys that are sponsors on here are great..But JASON is the man.. Great SERVICE again jason...

I thought they made a kit for the Comanche too. Is it possible the wrong kit was ordered or shipped?

I was being facetious.

The XJ kit is the MJ kit.

You just don't use the braces, because the MJ unibody already has better ones.
