Rollover! Good boy!

Muddy Beast

So I was at my local clubs Meet and Greet (PNWJeep.com) at a spot called Evans Creek, it's a pretty mellow ORV trail system but it's fun none the less. Last time I was at Evans I had smaller tires, smaller lift, less armor, no locker/LSD, and no gears. Basically a year ago it was a totally different rig. Well this year I got to do nearly all of the trails there (the harder ones anyhow) and was doing great, I was the only guy in my group to not have any damage the whole day on several trails. Well we decided to run an easy trail (called 311 for the locals) just before heading to camp for the club sponsored dinner. In the process there's a spot with two huge mud holes on the right and a go around on the left. I took the go around and parked just before the pit's exit. One of the rigs I was with went in both mud pits and ended up getting stuck in the furthest right, so I offered to yank him out (as I'd just yanked out another rig in a different mud pit and had all my straps ready). Well this is the short part, I cranked the wheel to make a big loop so I could back up to pull him out but not only totally forgot about the mud pit (probably 5ft deep and straight down-ish) but I didn't see it. My tire hit the edge, and from then on out I was just along for the ride.

I'm very lucky I had EVERYTHING in the back of my rig of decent size strapped down, as it all became air born in my direction. I'm also very happy everyone I was with was around to help getting my right side up possible. It was upside down for about 30-60 minutes (I wasn't keeping track) and the damage was two popped beads on the passenger side, pillar damage, door destroyed, windshield cracked, roof smashed, and a JCR slider was ripped off. Now I'm in the market for a new rig to swap it all, and once I get it I might do a hack job on this rig just for fun.

Here's how it looked...

Hey Scott there's a hole there.

... That sucks man.

from the pics. almost looks worth it just to replace the pass-rear door and try to pound the roof out.

but. i understand why your wanting another xj.. who knows whats tweaked

Drives OK, makes some noises that it didn't before though...haha.

And yeah the whole passenger side is kinda effed up. The window is cracking more and more everyday too. It's just going to take more money to get rolling then I find worth it.

Well at least you now dont have to worry about replacing your motor now!!:rof:

That sucks, Scott. Good luck with whichever route you choose to get it back as a viable wheeler or swapping parts to a new platform.

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear about your flop. Time to cage it and cut the top off.

Believe me, I would love to. However with winter coming I know it'd be a bad idea to start a chop now...especially with my limited welding skills right now. I have my eye on a two door with 160k.

Just think about how much easier it will be to do all the work now that your experienced! :D

how did you get the fluids out of that puddle?

What fluids, all I see is blood :shhh:

PS... everyone should go buy petro diapers to keep in their rigs for such instances

I would just buy a DD, and wheel that one like it is. At least now if you dent/scratch/flop it again, it won't hurt your feelings. LOL

Trick is, I'm 18...and insurance on two rigs is more then it cost to buy a new rig, swap it all, and add crap to it (like claytons, frame stiffies, rocker replacements, etc.).

As far as the fluids, I'm sad to say we never managed to get any out. I was with about 10 rigs by the time I was back on my wheels, but no one had any way to get the fluid out. Believe me, I wondered around trying to find a way...but all of my "cleaning" supplies fell out the window when it flopped.

Scott- I am really sorry. It hurts to see a nice rig get hurt like that. Start with another and swap the parts over. The unibody will never be the same without a chop & cage. Best wishes man!

Exactly why I started looking for a new rig right after it happened. It's easier for everyone to suggest chopping and caging when it's not their car, but it's not a practical idea for me with my limited fab skills, winter coming, and it being my DD.

Hoping to pick-up a new rig tomorrow.

Post some pics when you do Scott. What are you looking at? You need to get your stuff under a new rig so we can make a trip up to reiter now that I finally have a trail worthy rig again.

For sure man. I'm looking at an '88 2door limited with 160k-ish. I'm 99% sure it will be taken home tomorrow. I'll be taking the long and lonely drive to Puyalup to purchase it and tow it home.

I'm hoping to have a new rig (whatever it ends up being) done in two months with frame stiffies and long arms (Leaning Claytons, but maybe BDS).

Sucks man. Nobody had a winch? Good luck on the new build. I have always wanted a 97-99 2 door for a trail rig.
