roll bar question

Hello all, I am doing bit of work on a (and for give me) Landcruiser and I am installing 4 point harnesses. I am welding in a cross bar to the roll cage's center hoop and I am tossing around a few ways of doing this and I would like your suggestion.

1: Just weld it directly to the cage
2: Weld on a flat piece of steel to both ends of the cross bar and then use u-bolts to attach it to the existing cage so that it can be removable.
(basically make a T on its side with U-bolt going through the center hoop and attaching to the top of the T)

Would option 2 be safe enough or should I just weld it right to the existing cage?

when most people make sometihng on a cage that is removeable, they use flanges with 4 bolts that hold it togehter -

I.e. weld a flange to each side of the factory roll bar, and then weld flanges to the end of your new tube...

In my opinion that would be stronger than u-bolts...

but this is to be taken with a grain of salt - i have never built a cage, much less had oen fail at a point and been able to say "this is why it failed"

The best would be welded, but if you have to have it removable for one reason or another than the only way I'd do it is to use "Tube Clamps". Even using these I would at least weld in some kind of stops above & below the clamps so that if for some reason they did slip up or down they could only slip to the stop. These clamps are what I used to mount my spare tire on the back of the CAT & they've worked really well, very stout. This is the best pic I could find, but you get the idea.

If the hoop doesn't already have some cross bracing, it would be much stronger if it did. Ditto Matt's comments, if there's no reason to have the bar removable just weld it in. It would certainly be less work to weld it.

Are those lights LEDs ? May I ask, what they cost, where you got the from, what they measure and if you like them ? :) Hi-jack off.
Yes they are LED. I used to be a dealer for them. They are Maxxima brand & work very well. These ovals are 2" X 6" (I'll let you convert that to centimeters) Here are their specs. You can get them online here. Har det bra.

ditto , if you for some crazy reason use u bolts PLEASE weld stoppers above and below becuase you dont want your harness becoming useless or hazardous to you during an accident/roll . that being said weld it in or use the above mentioned flange idea, no reason not to.
