My google search went nowhere, but here's what I have:

1) a pic that looks remarkably similar to the 2000-2006 505 performance supercharger
2) a guy that says he ran this set-up, trouble free, for 60,000miles on his 96 4.0L (installed in his 93XJ).
3) a guy that says the unit has no ECU mods...instead it has a 7th injector to prevent lean mixture at higher boost.
4) sporadic stories that Rick Rimmer's first gen supercharger caused detonation issues.

So anyways, here are the pics.... I'm curious if the set-up is legit and double on newer 4.0Ls

there is a guy around town with a blower on his xj. not sure what brand it is but he cut the hood for it to fit and the blower is poking out of the hood. everytime i try to talk to him at the stop light or on the road, he ignores me or floors it to get away. its a fast xj though.

Did it look like this?

Because that's an avenger supercharger. It's also intercooled, and its pricey as all heck
(4300 last time I checked). There was one on eBay before Christmas that went for 1600,
but I didn't bid on it because I don't want to cut my hood (it's definitely not subtle lol)

I still want to find out about the supercharger I mentioned earlier... would it work on a
newer XJ, or are there substantial changes between .. say... a 93 and 01 ECU?

that is an amazingly low-line SC you have pictures of there... 7th injector sounds bogus, what would control it??? You'd have to mount it in-manifold/tb, or make a "wet" manifold out of it. Kind of a hybrid MPI/TBI system... just sounds like shenanigans to me!

If you can use that SC with an aftermarket controller like the FTC-XXXX or PSC-XXX (REALLY bad at remembering names), with an adjustable FPR and higher flowing injectors, I'm sure you can get a reliable, powerful, and wonderfully stock looking blown system from it!

Ha, the more I look at it the better it looks... I'd use the stock air box to get an even more "sleeper" looking blower from it...

heck, even if that thing doesn't produce much pressure, it'd be worth it to have something that clean with a good power gain...

It's interesting you said that, because the 505 performance supercharger looks very similar to this set-up
(pic below of 505 unit), but it is equipped with FTC Fuel management w/ timing control and 30lbs injectors.
I'm wondering if the 1st gen Rimmer set-up could be upgraded.

On the older turbo Dodge cars we run a 5th injector. All you need is a vacuum switch, a injector, a tee fitting, and a power source. Once the desired boost is hit, it will cause the injector to pulse. You can adjust the turn on pressures.

We are low buck so we normally use a VW cold start injector from the bone yard. Total mod will be less than $100.

It can and has been done a lot!

See #4 on this site.

I'm no rocket scientist, but what about the heat? My XJ runs sooooo hot in the summer, I mean, there's no way I would stick a supercharger on the same side as the exhaust manifold man. Just doesn't compute. At least with the turbo set ups they stick the housing on the other side of the motor.

Just a thought...

Oil cooler? hood vents? upgraded radiator? There are quite a few problems other than heat, ie fuel management, spark timing, etc... it's all part of the package for increased power!

The guy who originally ran this supercharger ran it for 60k miles... without any special upgrades... without issue. I already have a few heat-reducing upgrades like a hot-jet coated header, hood vents, and a tranny cooler. AND I'm prepared to make the necessary upgrades to make this thing run smoothly.

Besides, it sure beats waiting 2 years for a turbo. Anyways, I'm not going to jinx myself by saying anymore... until this thing arrives at my doorstep.
