OK,OK, I read all of the previous motor mount posts, but I still have a question.

On the right side, others are mentioning removal of the Oil filter adapter. Is this because of interference when sliding the pivot bolt out? I have the motor mount bolts out, and have not yet removed the oil filter to try and slide the pivot bolt out.

PS: I never should have tried to get another year out of Broken. Before it goes to the crusher, I'll post some pictures as a memorial :)

Yes, on my 88 XJ Pioneer 4.0 I had to remove the oil filter mount to get out the through bolt. I had my XJ on a lift at the time uses a long handle on the socket to get the bolt to turn out of the oil filter adaptor. Use a steady pressure on the adaptor bolt, do not jerk it. Read posts where people twisted off the bolt. You will use a shallow depth socket and a rachet or a breaker bar. If you do it from above you may want to disconnect the battery to prevent making a connection with the POS wire from the battery to the starter.

I'd also recommend you replace the battery cables while you are here. Oil drips on the cables every time you change oil. You can not tell that insulation is damage since it is in that large plastic conduit. You may want to do the CraigH wiring upgrade, I'll post his web site if you don't have it, since you'll be changing wires.

I had the POS in the conduit arc as I moved to a new town with a load of stuff. I got here and used a friends garage and changed the cable. I showed people at work and they could not believe how swollen the insulation wa and how half the strands had been arced through.

You may want to install one of bolts holding the mount to the chassis bracket so the engine is supported while you remove the oil filter adaptor. Also get a set of new O rings from the dealer for re-assembly of the oil filter adaptor.
