Rhino Lining

just curious to see if anyone rhino lined the interior of their XJ i cut the roof off and we had some rain here and messed some of my liner and carpet up so im saying screw it gonna tear it out and rhino line it, just cuious to see if anyone has done it to see what it involves. thanks

rhino liners are applied only by certain shops, and to spray the inside of your xj would run at least 500 maybe more depending on prep work and such.

search for "herculiner" it comes with a can of liner, brush, roller and everything you need for line-it-yourself bed liner. one can does a 6' bed, and you can get an additional quart to do an 8' bed, which is probly what you will need. the kit costs about $75 i think.

I actually just finished Herculining my XJ a few hours ago. It wasn't hard at all, but it was messy and it took a lot of time. I did the actual Herculiner in a day, but the rust repair and prep took about a week. One gallon of the stuff is more than enough. I did the floor, the rocker panels and lower doors, the rear wheelwells, and around where I trimmed my fenders. I still have a fair amount of Herc left over. I'd definitely recommend it.

what about on paint what about the prep work like sanding down the old paint or is that not neccesary?i know the line-x you need a special primer no i need that with the herculiner or is it just spray on and go? thanks.

You don't have to remove the paint, just scuff it up. The Herc kit comes with a scuff pad.

a little off topic but i called rhino about doing the entire exterior of the heep and they wanted to charge me 6000 $$$$$ for it..i was like WHAT?

its an 89 and i only paid 2000 for it like 3 years ago...crazy people..

line x wanted 7000 for the entire outside.....theses people are nuts ...

i am going to be doing the herc inside too if i keep the 89.....i want a newer one and if i get a newer one i will be doing this also...i too was wondering about the smell ....if it had a lasting odor or not

Try spraying the outside with Morton’s Bed liner, available at local auto paint supply stores. You just need a air compressor, paint gun, all prep tools (sander, sand paper, tape, Bondo if you have any dents to fill etc..) and a weekend free to do it and it will look great like mine. As for the inside I am thinking about herculining it this summer. I would use Morton's but you can only spray that stuff and I don't want to hassle with spraying it inside the vehicle. The whole outside with Morton’s cost around $300 for everything paint + supplies. It’s easy to apply since its bed liner it’s not as easy to mess up as regular auto paint. $6000-$7000 is ridicules I'd say go with Morton’s on the outside and herculiner on the inside. The Morton's come in preset colors black, white, grey, navy blue, and like a marine blue. They also have a tintable version but it costs more and I have no experience with it. If you have any questions about the outside ask I and I will try to answer them.

I had my exterior shot up until the bend just below the door handles. That included the entire frontend but minus the hatch.

This was 5 years ago, but only cost me $600-800.

Line-X is exxentially odor free.

The smell while applying it wasn't bad at all. It just smells like paint. The seam sealer I used positively reeked, to the point where I put on a respirator, but the Herc really wasn't especially smelly.

I did the Rhino. Pull everything that touches the floor, and get it to the shop, pick it up when done.
Mine has been in over 10 years and still looks like new. It is worth every penny.

thats re-fawking-tarded. I have a buddy in my jeep club that had his entire TJ sprayed for $1200. Of course, they are a little smaller, and he didnt have the roof to do, but that is considerably less than $6000. Do it yourself, or keep looking

Im pretty sure all you have to do is scuff it with the scuff pad and thats all the nessacay prep you have to do...

Will one gallon do all those? Sure, that'd be plenty if you weren't doing the interior of the XJ.

And Smittty9785, Zice is right. You just mask it off, scuff it with the scuff pad (which comes in the kit), wipe it all down with xylene or acetone, and brush/roll it on. It's easy.

Did your interior smell like chemicals for any extended period of time afterwards? would my xj be girlfriend safe?
