Ok do I have a little less than a thousand miles on them so far. And plan on updating this. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone looking into new tires. Please keep in mind this is only MY personal experience and views from the perspective of a tire tech and fellow jeeper. My comparisons will be against the BFG mud terrains(old style) as that's what this same jeep/setup had before....
First thoughts: To say the tire looks goofy in pictures would be an understatement, and they aren't cheap. But in person they look better than you would expect. They are a heavy and thick tire. How stiff they were at first had me a bit nervous.
First trail-liberty: I guess running a new trail wasn't best way to get a grasp on the difference they made over the bfg's. But I can tell you this-I was beyond impressed. As were the other people I ran the trail with. I ran them at 8psi and only had about 70 miles on them at the start of the trail. My biggest concern was the lack of tread preventing lateral movent. In other words. The wide open blocks going across the width of the tire made me worry they would slip sideways off of rocks instead of grabbing. Boy was I wrong. They worked like glue. Even on large, flat, off camber rocks the tires held true to the line I wanted. I didn't have a single slip or slide( even when I wanted one :gee: ). The tires flexed great. With a little miles as they had I was impressed with how well they wrapped around the rocks. The large voids in tread allowed the tires contact surface to be very tangible. As in-all the flex wasn't just sidewall give. ( I know this cuz I got out to look at the tires when on different rocks/obstructions).
Snow: no really deep snow yet. Sunday goofing off with a few friends we Ran up rampart range (in 2wheel drive) and goofed off in the 6"of snow the road had. The tires held great and even in the turns tire spin was minimal. We ended up at Moab hill. With the few inches of untouched snow the obsticle had and me not having aired down( was at 25psi) I was curious how things were gonna turn out. I took the very far left 'hard' line. And walked right up. Had one slip of the tire and hot a definite an loud 'chirp!' then I popped up over the edge.
Road manners: I run mine at 25psi on the street and the tires do great. They are a bit louder than the bfg's were but the overall grip in the snow/ice far supercedes that of the bfg's. With the internal pellet ballance, shake is minimal at 52-57 and then dissapears. They look great going down the road and don't chirp as much as the bfg's did on tight turns in the parking lot.
Overall: very impressed and happy with these tires. It gives the jeep that last little look of 'aggressive' the bfg's just didn't give. They stay true to my line and ride great. So far, everything I wanted from the tire :thumbup:
