Renix ECU

Two things I'm curious about:

1. Was the 87 Renix stuff really only rated 150ish HP vs the 88-90 177hp? If so, was it an ECu difference, or internal componentry?

2. What parameters did the Renix MOPAR performance ECU modify?

Curious to see if the Perf computer might help my stroker a bit......

fuel injector pulse width - controls amount of fuel

fuel pump relay - energize fuel pump, shuts off if engine rotation isn't detected within 3 - 5 seconds

idle speed motor - control idle speed

power latch relay - maintains operation of idle stepper motor after key-off to allow idle speed reset for next start cycle.

o2 heater - shuts off o2 heater element during WOT

EGR solenoid - energized during "warm cruise" mode

ignition power module - spark trigger signal

shift indicator light - manual tranny only based on RPM & load

AC clutch relay -enable AC clutch (after motor speed up)

aux fan - turned on via AC clutch engagement or +190 degree coolant temp

There were 4 HP difference in the 87 (173) and 88 - 90 (177) motors and they were the result of Marketing - not engine modifications as the 87- 90 engine parts, head, pistons, etc are identical. The Mopar performance ECU for the Renix is no longer available (hasn't been for at least 5 years) and it basicly increased the timing and fuel flow - required 91 octane fuel instead of regular. You can use the Hi-altitude CPS to increase the timing and an adjustable MAP sensor to increase fuel flow to duplicate the Performance ECU for a lot less money.
