Removing the shifter bezel

I have a 96 XJ with an automatic. How do I get the little plastic bezel off from around the shifter?

On my 96, I remove the top "T" part of the shifter by pulling up really hard. Then I move the shifter to the "1-2" spot and wiggle it off.

Mines always come off with very little persuasion.

What about the push button on the side, does it just come off too or what? This is for replacing the console so cutting the thing in half won't work and I don't want to wreck it either
