Removed disc brake cover , is this a bad idea??

I have successfully replaced the front hub bearing housing thanks to the help of the GREAT people on this board.

I didnt reinstall the dust cover/Guard that shields the caliper , because it just catches and holds mud.

Is this a good or bad idea ??? I just use the vehicle for offroad use.

i dont see it doing much but i always put it back on, i dont know. that sob winds up cutting me whenever i mess with it

Mine has been off for 15 years....no problems yet.

then mines coming off when i put on my new axle seal. anyone know what those cost. few bucks i hope
