Removable Top XJ Project

I followed the thread here, but it's nice to see the finished product. Unbelievable! Where do you go wheeling in Michigan? I'm from Toledo, and I pretty much just get to the Mounds or some two tracks farther up.

Timber - do most of my wheelin down south in Ky and Tn, been to the mounds but wasn't all that impressed. Mud can be fun but the cleanup sucks and that seemed to be a lot of what the mounds was about.

rehab - The top pretty much rests on the enclosed sheetmetal on the body and seals with foam weather stripping. The weight does a good job of holiding it down but it also attaches to the cage at 4 points on the B and C pillars as shown here...

xray - the tailgate/liftgate would have been much easier on a newer XJ with the steel hatch... I much prefer welding to fiberglass. I want to see some other people tackle this type of mod but using hinges for the tailgate

thats very nice... i figured you would use some mechanical latches, much like the ones used for rear tire carriers. i like the bolt idea though, should be nice and sturdy. whereabouts in Michigan are you? we should go wheelin' sometime.

WOW, just wow. That is amazing work and a beautiful vehicle when the top is off. Living in FL, that would be the ultimate vehicle - hardly ever have the top on and would be more useable than a Wrangler to haul friends and gear comfortably (I guess up until the latest encarnation).
