Remedy for a flat monotube shock?

Crap. I've been waiting to get my RE monotube shocks delivered so I can start my 5.5" lift. The garage is full of parts, my wife is pissed, and there's no room to turn around.

To my delight, my shocks arrived today via UPS. Problem is, one of them is flat. There it was, lying lifeless in the box, compressed and useless like so much unwanted spaghetti at a low budget all-you-can eat buffet.

Rubicon Express is closed for the night and I have to wait for tomorrow before I can find out if I still get to install the lift this week. I've planned days off and have my tools all lined up. Even if they have one in stock, it is a three hour drive to their store from my worksite. Crap, crap, crap.

Am I doing something wrong? Can anything be done to restore this shock to its expected bouncy self? Is this a message that says I should spend my 320 bucks on a better set of shocks? Argh!

dude just install the 3 shocks for now. its not the end of the world to drive without shocks. let alone without one shock. i drove a scout without shocks for a while. plus you have a firm new suspension. maybe jerry rig your stock shock for that one for the time being, leave it over extended or something like that

I ran on two front shocks and one rear shock for somewhere over a year, with leaf springs. It'd probably be ok with the coils if you have a sway bar. Try it.

Cool. It is a rear shock and I agree, the stiff new leafs will be good for a while until RE sends me a new one.

That means the lift will be started tomorrow night, right after my Boonie Bouncers club meeting. Ooooh, today is Liftmas Eve!

sweet! just take it easy on the gas pedal. i had a super flexy scout on 35's welded front and rear for a long time. without shocks at all (no shocks) it was bouncy all around town! coming off the stop was the worst. i think with 3 of 4 youll be ok. i think an overextended stock shock until the new ones arrive will work fine....or nothing at all. just be nice on the gas. especially with brand new, super firm RE leaves and coils...

I called RE and they had one in stock, so I took a couple hours off and drive out to Rancho and picked one up. Apparantly, the shock had no fluid and RE has no idea how it was shipped. No leakage was present.

I've got my tools, jacks, lift components, and beer lined up for an install beginning tonight right after my club meeting. My largest concerns are getting the upper and lower control arm lengths right, and dropping the heap on top of me as I wrestle components into place in a drunken stupor at 3 am.

I'm stoked about this project.
