Hi Guys
I recently bought a carrier for 25.00 and 13.00 shipping from a "Jeeper" that was supposed to work with 4:88 gears on a D30. Well it turns out after tearing the front end apart the carrier was for 3:55 gears. I was 80 miles from home so I had to reassemble the front end, drive 3 hrs. to buy a new carrier, tear down the front end again and assemble it. I ask the guy for a refund ........So he sends me 39.00............ :dunno: Inside the envolope it says 25.00 refund and 14.00 to ship the carrier BACK to him
My thinking is I took almost 3 weeks to get this check I'll cash it get my 38.00 and send him the carrier and 1.00 in the box COD to his house. In his last email He asked "what would be a fair refund", I told him all I want is what I payed out.
AM I WRONG??

Did you contact him about the extra $13?? Remember he did not keep the shipping $$ he just collected it. From what you have written here, he sounds like a straight up guy that made an error, for that reason...I would ship it back paid.

I don't think you or we will ever know what would be fair. If he knew it wasn't for 4.88 gears and sold it to you anyway, then he should refund you the shipping both ways. On the other hand, if he made an honest mistake, he did more for you than most retail companies would have done. Most companies I've dealt with only refund the purchase price, and if I return something I get whacked for the original shipping plus my return cost.

I've even had companies try to charge me a restocking fee even though I returned an item because they sent something totally different from what I ordered.

Send it back to him freight paid. I think you are real lucky to get your 25 back. There is a little thing called buyer beware and you got lucky this guy is being very upstanding on his part. So do it right on your part and send it back paid.

Sheit happens when working/fixing junk and it can cost us all more than we expect sometimes but that is just life.

Feel lucky you have you 25.00 back

I guess I disagree with most. But I work in a customer service industry also.

I would tell him if he wants his carrier back he can send another $12 for shipping or whatever it was, I have been on his end and I refunded the cost and shipping, and let him, dispose of the part, and it was more than $25 (turned out the part was not as valuable anyway) This was a long time ago with a mustang part.

If he knowingly or unknowingly misrepresented the part you should get a full refund.

Ideally like in a vendors case I think they should send out a call tag and resend the correct part, I have had this happen before also.

If you being the customer return something, because you misordered or changed your mind I think you should pay shipping both ways. However I think restocking fees are BS

Bottom line whoever makes the mistake foots the bill. Ignorant or not, sometimes it costs money to learn.
