Red Bird Trail Clean up Nov. 14

I will do my best to make it... things are heating up at work and I may be working most of the weekends in October... hopefuly it doesn't bleed over into November. Two weeks ago we were working 32 hour weeks... when it rains it pours.

Ah, good to hear from you. I had intended on giving you a call just to check up on you. I guess I don't have to bother you now.:D

I would love to come down and help, but it is drill weekend for Guard. I just got my traction bar finished, and haven't had a chance to try it out. :tear:

Important notes from the latest Redbird newsletter (you do subscribe to the RB newsletter, don't you?):

The park has changed hours of operation to 9am to 7pm due to the days growing shorter. Also the park now accepts credit cards for your entrance fee.

and how do I get this newsletter? cause, no, I didnt get it :)
oh yeah, any idea if camping is available in the State Forest? I should look into that so I know I have a place to sleep.

I think IndyORV is planning on cleaning trail 27 the same weekend. But it looks like this trip is also going to be the shake down run for my buddies TJ loaded down with TNT goodies on JK 44s and the brand spankin' new 35" Pit Bull Rocker Radials, so I'll be running with him just incase something goes bad, and to see the first scratch he puts on it. I'm doing all the paint work for him. Just a peek:

Last time we ran trail 27, everyone got damage of some sort.

The damage

Gary (TJ):
"One mirror (had no choice)
Opened my existing hole in my top a little more
Both sides of my top has scrapes from front to rear (maybe rubbed 7 or 8 times)
Winch took a shit(Adam is a dick)
crushed A pillar"

Robert (XJ):
"One door dented in pretty good, both back quarters above the back windows dented and scraped. Damaged roof rack. And the worst part of all is ego damaged

Forgot about dented roof and factory rail for roof rack, and drivers side drip rail above back door.(had to use BFH to beat it up to open door properly."

Me (XJ):
"Drivers side drip rail from rear door back is trashed
Drivers side D pillar has new damage on top of new damage
Hatch has a dent in it on the drivers side
Lower track bar mount needs some work(bolt hole is wallowed out, causing a slight DW)
I will soon be looking for a new track bar(more than likely RE, TNT, or Currie)
I think my front dif bearings need to be replaced, after loosing a qt. of dif fluid on the trail yesterday, and a leaky pinion seal"

Adam(LJ Rubicon):
"both a pillars smashed.
piaa light smashed.
ripped safari top.
broken door surround.
2 beads again.
roll bar padding and fire extinguisher holder scratched/torn a bit.
cb antenna snapped in half.
slightly bent front fender.
dog vomit in back of jeep."

Shaggy(TJ)
"Passenger side A pillar is crumpled
Both fenders a little more bent in
Sound bar padding ripped off"

The XJs were on 31's locked front, the TJ/LJs were on 35's and locked f/r. Both XJs had to call it quits when we stopped for lunch and rode along the rest of the day. My track bar was being a POS(junk Procomp), and the other's wife and kids had enough. We stopped before the TJs started getting damaged.

Going to be tearing my jeep down next weekend to rework the rear suspension, will be there with it if I have it back together in time. Otherwise I will be there in the grand, but it isn't leaving the parking lot.

Plan to be there when the gates open at 9am. We usually eat lunch on the trail but we have made it back to the parking lot a few times. We wheel/clean up until we've ran the entire trail. We don't get in a big hurry. We stop along the trail wherever we feel needs some attention, take care of it, and then move on.

Sorry to say, but I can't make this afterall. I have a wedding that Friday night and that would make it nearly impossible to be there Saturday morning by 9.

What exactly are we going to be doing as far as the trail clean up goes? Anything special we need to plan on bringing?
Byron could answer this better than me.
I'm not sure I'm going to make it now anyway.

Pretty much just checking out the trail, making sure no trees fell across it, clearing brush, picking up trash, etc. I will grab signs from the maintenance shed so we can replace fallen signage or add more if necessary.

I do know the entry point off of Trail 0 could stand some more gravel work; I will collaborate with the DNR to see if I can run a skid steer to do that, or maybe they will do it for us.

What about adding rock to the "mud pit" as a bypass? We need to come up with some way around that mess or its just gonna get worse to the point that it will be impassable.

Lucky!! I have a wedding as well. My problem is the two families being united are very conservative. I need to buy a flask before then.
