Recovery points!

For something as important as a hitch, whether used for recovery or towing, I'd think twice about buying used. I've seen more than a few factory XJ hitches that were severely rusted, not necessarily from road salt, but due to the fact that they somewhat reinforce the unibody, and are therefore subject to stress, especially where the cross tube is welded to the frame mount pieces.

This would come with mounting hardware too.

This makes me all warm and cozy about mine... I've never really gotten under there and looked at it... o_O Go Rust Belt!

I have hitches, front and rear.

On the front it ties the "frame rails" together for a stronger recovery point.
I also have hooks on the front.

I'd have to say this is probably something you should consider. I have the HiCountry Offroad shackle mounts and while I really like them, they're going to bend badly unless you're getting pulled straight out. As individual front recovery points go, they're top notch - just want to make that clear.

I got pulled out of a deep creek a few weeks ago and the only way to go was up and to the right. Bent the crap out of the bracket. If you (01grn_xj) want to see it, just let me know (I think we're fairly close to one another).

I'm trying to hammer it back into shape, but if I can't, I may just opt for a front hitch and be done with it.

Well thanks for all of the kind replies and helping me out everyone. I have a hitch headed my way and the tow hooks should be headed my way this week.

And you got a set of tires too! Glad you got it all worked out. We are gonna try to get a run together in September or October. You are more than welcome to tag along.
