I spent $1500 on my 4.0 reman. It came on a crate to my house with all the gaskets, oil pump, and a few other things. The core charge was an additional $300 but they refunded once I sent back my bad block on their crate. Shipping my bad block back was part of the $1500 cost. It came with a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty. I think I got the motor from LQK but I'm not sure. I gave all the paperwork on the new motor to the guy who bought my XJ. I ended up going through one of their supplier called Nihon Motors.

a new motor would be nice, however wouldnt a low mileage tj or WJ engine be cheaper and potentially better? it always seems reman motors dont last nearly as long as OEM ones.
just thinking out loud here, not even sure if it's a direct swap for one of those long blocks.

didnt i read in a jeep mag a while back that jeep started offering a "magnum v8" retro kit? they also offered other retro kits that were all CARB legal. how much wow factor do you want there Rick?

Russ Pottenger? His prices aren't too far off from most mass rebuilders, and he puts out a better quality product.

the nice cars dont go to ecology or pick your part. there's plenty of junkyards around that deal with newer/nicer cars.

I did a autozone when I very first got my XJ back in like 02-03. It had Major issues and didnt want to mess with it. It was I think 1399$ and a core. It was a long block and the rebuilder gave a certificate that showed the engines; oil psi at 700 and 3000 rpm, compression in each cyl, exact at valve lift, and did the initial break in.
I never had a issue and I never was easy on it. It never overheated, even on 40" tires and all trails.
And the warranty was I think 3yrs or 30,000.

I hadn't thought of that route. I do know a couple of guys who have picked up long blocks through Autozone. No problems with their engines either...
